- **Event Description**: Join us for an unforgettable experience as we explore the Unicorn Theatre, Long Gallery, and Checker Hall—historic treasures dating back to the 13th to 15th centuries. These stunning medieval buildings, each with a story to tell, have been beautifully preserved and thoughtfully adapted over the centuries, serving as everything from granaries and schools to private homes.

Originally built from wood and later reconstructed in stone after the Norman Conquest of 1066, Abingdon Abbey rose to become one of the largest and wealthiest religious institutions in the country. But its grandeur met an abrupt end in 1538 during Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries. Much of the abbey was dismantled, its stones finding new life in local buildings.

Today, the Checker Hall and Long Gallery stand as some of the finest, best-preserved examples of 13th-century domestic architecture in England. This is a rare chance to investigate the  history of the medieval period.
