- **Event Description**: Come Friday, 2/20/26 to help  collect trash from the road adjacent to the Barnes Chapel Preserve near Abingdon, VA.About this EventThe Nature Conservancy, in collaboration with Virginia DCR-Natural Heritage and the Virginia Highlands Community College, needs your help collecting roadside trash along the road that is adjacent to the Barnes Chapel Preserve outside of Abingdon, VA. This preserve is a protected area and contains state-rare plants. We need 20 volunteers to wear blaze orange or yellow vests and walk to roadside collecting trash as they go. TNC will provide safety vests, gloves, trash collectors, and trash bags.When: Tuesday, February 3 from 2-4:30p.m.What to Bring/Wear:Blaze orange or yellow vests are required. TNC will provide vests but bring one if you have one.Gloves; TNC will have extras.Muck boots are not required for the roadside trash cleanup but some of the drainage ditches can be goopy.Water and any snacks you might need.A confirmation email will be sent with additional details to those who register the Friday before the event.
