ABOUT HEARTH FOOD
An anthology of essays and personal recipes, this book invites the question: what does food mean to you? How is that bond with family passed down through food and the act of sitting down to eat? What happens when that is lost? Everybody has a story, a recipe, a memory - good or bad - that involves a meal with family. From displacement, to relocation, fleeing, or arriving at leisure, these essays explore what it means to be able to cook and enjoy the food of your home and your happiness. Ranging from Tarten Llus, Staffordshire oatcakes, to Zimbabwean lamb chops with a Welsh twist; Moroccan Keftas and Filhoses, this is a round-the-world recipe book with bite.
ABOUT THE EDITORS
Faaeza Jasdanwalla-Williams is an historian of early modern Ottoman women, having completed her PhD from Aberystwyth University. She went on to teach a module on Ottoman history at the University for 10 years. She simultaneously continued her secondary research on the African Diaspora in India. Her interest in the latter field emerges from the desire to research the history of her maternal ancestors who migrated from Eastern Africa (from the area around what was then Abyssinia) to India in the late medieval period. Migration and immigration (she herself is an immigrant in Wales) are therefore, subjects close to her heart.
Rebecca Parfitt has worked in publishing for over 18 years. She has edited many anthologies and is also founder and editor of the Ghastling magazine. She is Honno's Commissioning Editor. She is also a writer, poet and film-maker and has received many awards and been published widely. She lives in south Wales and loves to try her cooking out on her own unruly family.
