peacock: a workshop for art
21 Castle Street, Aberdeen, United Kingdom
Peacock is proud to present a collaborative Risograph workshop with artist and musician Tommy Perman and Peacock print technician Neil Corall. Based on the process Tommy used to create the visuals for his live shows with Andrew Wasylyk, he will lead a workshop introducing Riso printing. Participants will create colourful pattern-based prints in response to music. Here’s a little video that shows how Tommy made the visuals: https://vimeo.com/tommyperman/the-making-of
The workshop will begin with participants creating bold black and white patterns using various tools. We’ll provide simple pre-made halftone patterns marker pens crayons black card and more.
Next, participants will photograph their patterns using a variety of unusual camera lenses including kaleidoscopes prisms and playful toy lenses. They’ll experiment with how these lenses distort their patterns and produce unexpected results.
We will print the photographs of the distorted patterns and use them to make Riso stencils. We will then begin layering prints using different patterns and making creative choices and developing compositions in response to what emerges from the printer. The workshop will be infused with the spirit of music improvisation and play.
After the workshop, the prints will be collated into a wire-bound book which each participant can collect the following week. There will also likely be extra prints for participants to take away at the end of the workshop.
We’re running two workshops: a morning session and an afternoon one. To ensure a diverse range of participants, we kindly request that tickets be booked for only one session and not both.
