He is also a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and the head of the academic advisory council of the Ukrainian History Global Initiative, established after the 2022  Russian invasion of Ukraine. The author of numerous bestselling books, including Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin (2010); On Tyranny. Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century (2017), and On Freedom (2024), Professor Snyder writes for the press on Ukraine, the U.S, authoritarianism, digital politics, health, and education. He has appeared in documentaries, on television, and as an expert witness before several parliaments. His work has inspired demonstrations, sculpture, posters, punk rock, rap, film, theater, and an opera.
