About the eventDia De Los Muertos Catrina Portrait Workshop
Join Nomad Family Photo Group for a unique photography experience! What better way to mark your Dia de Los Muertos adventure than with portraits of live Catrinas!
Not everyone gets to experience this event on the actual Day of the Dead so we’ve added this April date to beat the heat!
With multiple models in full Catrina make up and costume, we will learn natural light and fill flash portraiture for some incredible images with a backdrop of the Cemetery in Cinco De Diciembre. (We will remain respectful, not disturbing any ofrendas or sitting or standing on headstones.)
In this workshop we will learn posing, composition, depth of field, white balance, lighting, and more! Students will observe lectures and demonstrations and then allowed to capture their own images while working individually with models.
Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican celebration honoring lost loved ones. In Mexican culture, when someone dies, their loved ones come together to celebrate their life instead of mourning. Mexicans create extravagant ofrendas (or alters) for their deceased friends, family, or honored celebrities so that the dead can come back and visit the living world.
Our favorite part of Dia de Los Muertos is the Catrinas, perhaps the most recognizable symbol of Day of the Dead. The elegantly dressed skeletons can be found in many forms such as figurines or statues, or people wearing extravagant makeup.
Ashley Werter is a professional photographer and has been teaching photography for over 10 years. Now a local in Vallarta she offers multiple photography workshops, walks and club meetings around town.
This special workshop is a great activity for solo travelers to explore the city and meet new people, and for families or friends who are photography and adventure lovers! All ages and camera types as well as skill levels are welcome! We’ll have a brief introduction to get to know the group and then the lecture will be designed to suit the majority. More advanced and camera specific questions will be addressed during the course when we work together more closely.
A perfect sample of our many Photography Workshops around the city, as well as discovering the most beautiful traditions of Mexican culture.
