Pets on Third is a day of celebration for all pets, big or small. Pet boutiques and services that focus on the health and well being of these special family members are showcased. The much anticipated pet parade, special events and other activities make for a joyous time for all.
Begin by browsing an array of pet specialty vendors. You're more than likely to find just the right collar, scarf or leash for the pet you adore. Local veterinarians as well as professional trainers and pet boarders will also be on hand to offer advice and inform you of their services. If a portrait of your favorite pet is on your wish list, speak to one of the pet artists that will be on hand.
Then follow Grand Marshall Mayor John Sorey in the parade where people and their pets of every persuasion strut their stuff dressing in costume reflecting this year’s theme: The Red Carpet: Night at the Oscars. Judges will present awards for the most original costume; pet and owner look-alike; and best theme costume.
Registration for participants in the pet parade in advance by mail is $15 per pet; registration forms are available at the offices of Neapolitan Enterprises, which is underwriting the program, 255 13th Avenue South, Suite 202, Petco, Wigglebutt Inn and Camp Bob Wow, or by visiting www.thirdstreetsouth.com. On the day of the event, the registration fee will be $20 per pet. Please note that all pets must be on leash; children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult; and no female pets in heat will be allowed. Although theme costumes are encouraged, they are not required.
