From international artists to homegrown talent, there are many spaces for different types of concerts in Mumbai. Mahindra Blues is a two-day festival organized for all lovers of the Blues. It draws in large crowds and showcases some of the best Blues musicians from all over the country and world. This festival is held each year in February.
Mood Indigo is a college fest organized by IIT Bombay and features Asia’s largest college concert. This four-day event has been responsible for bringing many international artists to India.
Enchanted Valley is one of the newer EDM concerts in Mumbai. Actually, it is held in Aamby Valley which is a short drive from Mumbai. This three-day music festival brings the latest in House, Techno, Grunge, Dance, and more. People attending the festival can also partake in camping and other adventure activities.
The Big Sufi Night is organized at Café Haqq Se and brings the best Sufi bands together for an intimate night of Sufi trance. Sufi Nights are also organized at Sun-n-Sand’s Beachcomber Bar every Thursday night. The Fine Arts Society usually organizes Carnatic music events in Mumbai.
While the larger live music events in Mumbai are organized at special event spaces and happen annually, there are many smaller event spaces in the city that showcase music events throughout the year. Due to the space constraints, the setting is more intimate with a smaller crowd. While the artists might not be huge stars, this is the perfect opportunity to discover local and niche artists.
One of the most popular spaces for regular concerts is The Hard Rock Café. They have space for bands to perform to a small crowd. Getting a show at HRC is a sign that an Indie band has made it. NCPA or the National Centre for Performing Arts organizes a wide range of music concerts from jazz to Hindustani to international artists. The Quarter hosts Live at the Quarter which is a jazz club. They host artists and help them collaborate, thus creating new music. FLYP@MTV Café curates a range of musicians from across the country on different days of the week.
