I am ordered to
forward the following

As we anxiously anticipate the upcoming War of 1812 bicentennial, it reminds me that the greatest of all Napoleonic battle bicentennial anniversaries is just
around the corner. The Battle of Waterloo will be commemorated in Belgium on or about June 18, 2015. Wouldn't it be great to be there! To that end, a
committee made up of volunteers from various Crown Forces units is in the very early stages of planning for just that event. We are starting to gather
thoughts and information to be passed on to all members of Crown Forces (and US forces too if interested).
The plan is to take a British battalion over to Europe to participate in the
re-enactment. This group would be drawn from all units, but formed into
companies so that it functions as a battalion. Each unit would wear their own
regimental uniform as it would look in the year 1815 (ie. grey trousers and
belgic shakos). This approach was used to very great success in the 1995
Waterloo event. Participants from both Canada and the US are welcome. US units could choose to join redcoat groups or go as Dutch Belgians (similar uniform to late war US). We would probably organize a week long trip including tours and sight seeing around the actual event. In all likelihood, extended visits could be accommodated within the group rate once we have reached the detailed planning stage.
I hasten to point out that no travel arrangements, hotel bookings or tours have been investigated as yet. That will be the responsibility of the committee as we continue our work. The purpose of this email is to get people thinking about the event and starting to plan (and save) for it. Costs per person could be in the range of $2500.00. There will be a lot of work that will need to be done to put this together and your help as we get closer will be appreciated. It is extremely important, however, that our efforts are coordinated to gain the maximum benefits. As the final event in the saga of the Napoleonic Wars (including the War of 1812) it would be wonderful to have a very large group of North Americans go to Belgium!
More to follow.
