Vancouver's Rococode feature no shortage of Canadian indie talent: singer/keyboardist Laura Smith is a former member of Said the Whale, while Johnny Andrews and Shaun Huberts make up Tegan and Sara's live rhythm section. Having spent the year gigging regularly, the group are now getting ready to release their debut album. Entitled Guns, Sex and Glory, it's due out February 7, 2012. The LP was produced by Mother Mother's Ryan Guldemond, along with the band's own Andrew Braun. Guns, Sex and Glory has been described as equal parts arty and accessible, sexy and sweet, badass and beautiful.
Locally we got a couple powerhouses starting the night up right!
Federal Lights are a rather new band to the scene. Rising from the ashes of The Morning After, this is a band to be heard, indie rock anthems and blissfully loud guitars. The band now includes top notch musicians from such great Winnipeg bands like The Attics and Quinzy.
Enjoy Your Pumas are an independent four piece. They have a female singer who likes to use her voice in strange yet comfortingly familiar ways. Some say she sounds like Lizzy Powel, Karen O, Emily Haines, or the Cardigans' Nina Persson. Really, her voice is all her own. The Pumas like to match her voice with the sound of warm electric guitars buried under layers of delay. They like sexy, pulsating bass grooves and uptempo rhythm because they like to dance and move.
