The Canadian Cancer Society is teaming up with the Winnipeg Rowing Club to host a refreshed Canadian Cancer Society Dragon Boat Festival this spring that will improve the participant experience and champion the fight against all cancers. Together we are introducing changes to make the event bigger and better than ever before.

With origins dating back to 1881, the Winnipeg Rowing Club is one of the longest standing sporting organizations in Western Canada. It is a non-profit organization offering lessons and programs in the sport of rowing, with a rich and successful history, and tradition of camaraderie and friendships.

The refresh of the event follows a successful 2011 Canadian Cancer Society Dragon Boat Festival which drew 2,500 participants from 120 teams to raise funds for cancer research and recognize the thousands of Manitobans on a cancer journey and loved ones lost to this disease.

The festival is open to individuals, friends, companies and organizations looking for a healthy way to team-build, have some fun and enjoy a little friendly competition.

Originating in China in the 4th century BC, Dragon Boating has become an increasingly popular sport all over the world bringing together both corporate and community teams.

The boats are propelled by 20 paddlers kept on a 500 meter course by a steersperson and kept in sync by a drummer. Total team work and a little competitive spirit make each race exciting! Whether you are a participant or a spectator, the Dragon Boat Festival promises to offer a weekend of excitement along with camaraderie and everlasting memories.
