Bang it's Poetry CFSW pre qualifiers continue 7-9 UWS

It's a competitive poetry night, the best in the city!

Tuesday night will be the next preliminary round for the Winnipeg Poetry Slam! These preliminary rounds will lead up to the Semi-Final and Final rounds of competition. The finalists will end up representing Winnipeg at the National Poetry Slam which is held in conjunction with the National Gathering of Spoken Word in October, which is being held in Saskatoon this year.

The Slam will be held at Pop Soda's Coffeehouse and Gallery (625 Portage Avenue). Sign up is at 6:45, the show should start around 7. There is a suggested donation of $5 requested at the door, but if not, then what one can afford. The show will feature 2 sets of around 10 poets, with a different piece each round. If you are interested in participating, feel free to bring along 2 pieces of work to perform.

How does competitive Poetry work? Easy. Poets have 3 minutes to perform their piece each round. 5 judges are selected prior to the show starting and the 5 scores are collected after each poet performs. There will also be a sacrificial poet for judges to calibrate their scores on. The highest and lowest scores are dropped and the remaining scores are totalled. At the end of the night, the top 3 poets will be announced based on the totals of the remaining scores. Penalties are issued in the event of exceeding the time limit or if props are used.
