Join Food Matters Manitoba as the 5th annual Growing Local Conference kicks off with what is sure to be a very special evening!
Reknowned Anishinaabe author, orator, and one of Time magazine's most promising leaders, keynote speaker Winona LaDuke will be presenting on "Food Sovereignty and the Green Economy: Challenges and Strategies for the Social Justice Movement"
Looking at the work of Indigenous communities around food sovereignty and food security issues, LaDuke examines how these struggles link to broader economic and political trends and underscores the challenges facing social justice movements as a whole.
LaDuke is founder and Co-Director of Honor the Earth, a national advocacy group encouraging public support and funding for native environmental groups. In her own community in northern Minnesota, she is the founder of the White Earth Land Recovery Project, one of the largest reservation based non-profit organizations in the country, and a leader on the issues of culturally-based sustainable development strategies, renewable energy and food systems.
Tickets are $15 and will sell out fast! We strongly encourage online registration. Tickets will only be sold at the door if there are spots remaining.
For more information and to register (for just this night, the whole conference, or both!) please visit the Growing Local page on our website and follow the links
