ForestEthics is proud to host renowned Canadian anthropologist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Wade Davis for an event celebrating the launch of his latest book, The Sacred Headwaters. A compelling storyteller, Davis presents a visual feast and a plea to save an extraordinary region in North America from industrial development.

In a rugged knot of mountains in northern British Columbia lies a spectacular valley known to the First Nations as the Sacred Headwaters. There, three of Canada’s most important Salmon rivers – the Stikine, Skeena, and Nass – are born in remarkably close proximity. In the middle of this fragile ecosystem, Shell plans to drill thousands of wells and use controversial hydraulic fracturing (fracking) techniques to extract coalbed methane gas.

During this event, Wade Davis speaks about the country’s extraordinary cultural heritage, describes the region’s beauty, the threats to it, and the response of native groups and other inhabitants. The inescapable message is that no amount of methane gas can compensate for the sacrifice of a place that could be the Sacred Headwaters of all Canadians and indeed of all peoples of the world.

Wade's book, Sacred Headwaters, will be for sale. Please bring cash, credit card or check if you wish to purchase a book at our discounted rate.

Tickets for the event are:

Students (with ID)- $10

Adults - $12

At the door (if available) - $15
