One of the first, and most popular, hard rock/metal bands of the early seventies, Deep Purple will forever be remembered for their massive hit "Smoke On The Water" (featuring one of the most well-known riffs ever recorded) as well as oft-covered classics such as "Highway Star", "Burn", and countless others. Their most well-known albums would probably be Machine Head and In Rock, but the 1984 comeback album Perfect Stranger deserves mention, as not only is it one of their better efforts but one of the best examples of how a band actually can come back together after years apart and release something relevant without just cashing in on past glories. Since that reunion the band has continued to tour and occasionally record, maintaining a fan base an astonishing 40 years after their inception.
