Mass direct action has been central to every societal transformation in history. From contesting the jurisdiction of colonial empire to challenging corporate globalization, direct action strategies have served to build and mobilize movements that have liberated the power and self-determination of communities around the world.
Join 4 veteran activists for a 5-hour intensive training on the use of direct action organizing tools, strategic planning, building campaign narratives and communications

To effectively challenge and dismantle the power and influence of the 1% over governments and media today, we need to build the capacity of movements to self-organize - building and deploying action-based strategies that “flip the script” for communities to resist, rethink and transform a broken system.

Learn how direct action strategies are designed and deployed to win change for the 99%.
This training will include:
§ Looking at successful direct action strategies in BC movement history
§ Building alignment, solidarity and common cause for strong action
§ Using story-based strategy for irresistible movements
§ Planning, designing, organizing and implementing direct action
§ Understanding, roles, responsibilities, agreements and decision-ma

Trainers

Jessica Bell, M. Ed., works as a facilitator and social movement trainer. She is the co-founder of Toronto training organization, Tools for Change, and is a trainer with the Ruckus Society. Jessica teaches advocacy at the Non-profit and Voluntary Sector Management Program at Ryerson University.

David Sone is a co-founder of Toronto training organization, Tools for Change, and currently works as a campaigner at Earthroots. David has been coordinating direct action for over a decade, and has organized solidarity campaigns in support of the Grassy Narrows First Nation and the KI First Nation.

Jen Angel is co-founder of media strategy, publishing and tour management agency, Aid and Abet Booking, and is former editor of Clamor Magazine. Jen has trained countless activists in media and communications skills, and coordinated communications for various direct action mobilizations across the U.S.

Ananda Tan is with Rising Tide North America, a network of direct action organizers and trainers building movements for climate justice. Ananda started organizing direct action in BC in 1985, in the anti-war movement, for forest defense, labor justice, environmental justice and First Nations solidarity.
