The Utica Zombie Walk is an annual event brought to you by three local production companies, Direkt Influence Productions, Microcosm House and Shadowpark Studios. Last year was our third event, and we greatly exceeded our goals and expectations. We had an estimated attendance of 300-500 participants, and raised $700.00 total for the Steven Swan Humane Society of Oneida County and The Food Bank of CNY. This was all done with a minimal budget, hard work and dedication, the combined efforts of staff and volunteers, along with the help of the city of Utica, the associated press, and local venue owners. This we are happy to say that we are once again returning to the Uptown Theater, which has been newly remodeled since our last walk.
For those of you that are unclear of what exactly a "zombie walk" is, we would like to clarify. A zombie walk is simulation of an attack of the undead upon the area. It is an interactive art exhibit, with the participant "zombies" in full makeup and character stumbling and lurching down the street as a hoard. The goal is a shock and awe experience for the community. It is a scary, safe and unique way to bring the community together. These walks are common in larger cities and we are happy to bring it here to Utica.
This year we are back with confidence, and experience gained from last year's success. This year's walk will have a suggested donation of one non perishable food item, either pet or human food as the cost of admission to the walk.
The date of the walk will be Saturday, October 27th 2012 at the newly renovated Uptown Theater. Registration, makeup and the food drive will begin at at 5pm, and concludes at 7pm. The zombie walk will begin sharply at 7pm. We will march our undead legion through the streets of Utica, and back to the Uptown Theater. (Weather Permitting, see Route section)
This year we are happy to announce two very exciting events in which we encourage participants to partake after the zombie walk:
First, there will be a Haunted History investigation conducted by the Shadow Chasers of NY. Learn the history of the Uptown Theater and conduct your own investigation with the latest equipment and methods provided by the Shadow Chasers. Proceeds go towards the historic preservation of the site. Tickets are $30/person. The investigation is 8:00pm. Spaces are limited, so call the Shadow Chasers at 315-527-2164 for tickets.
Secondly, this year we have provided the survivors of the zombie apocalypse with an escape route, which is always needed. We are proud to announce “THE ESCAPE PLAN: A Zombie Train Ride out of Utica” aboard the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. The train begins boarding at 8:30pm at the Utica Train Station, and departs at 9:00pm. Fully decorated for the occasion, we will escape Utica’s zombie attack in style! A snack bar and wet bar will be available. Once departed, there will be a zombie dance party on the train featuring three of the best Electronic Dance deejays Utica has to offer. Upon arrival at the safe zone, Remsen Station, a photo op will take place. This event is restricted to zombies over the age of 21, photo ID required. Tickets should be purchased in advance, and a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to our selected charities.
We are incredibly excited to bring this unique experience to Utica once again. We need your help to make it possible. Please crawl out of your graves and lurch to our event.

Weather permitting, We will depart from the Uptown Theater, head right on Genesee Street until we reach Carlile Street. Taking a right on Carlile Street, we will lurch until we amass upon Sunset Ave. At that point, we will make another right onto Sunset Ave. We will then direct the undead hoard to shamble down Sunset Ave all the way to the intersection of Parkway/Burrstone Road. Then we will take another right onto Burrstone Road/Parkway, up to Genesee Street. At that point we will take yet another right onto Genesee Street, and make our way back to the Uptown Theater. The walk is a little less than 1 mile in length, and may be shortened if the weather doesn't cooperate. (Notice there are no major street crossings necessary, and there are sidewalks the entire route.) It's basically a big loop. All right turns, (Zombies are easily confused with directions if you start throwing in left turns and such) and not too long for the younger participants.
