You're on holiday in Laos, and after a long sun soaked day of tubing you return to your guesthouse. Your exhausted and your head throbs with heavy sunshine and too much cheap draught, so after a quick meal consisting of tam mak hoong, you return to your room for a breather, lie down and drift into a blissful sleep.
Before you've even realized you were sleeping, your been woken up by a small Laotian man calling himself Flo. He says its time to get up and that the pub crawl is leaving in 5 minutes. He promises there will be boom boom music. Despite your best intentions to stay in that night, you remember your friends advice, pull your camera from your bag and slip your sandals back on.
Over the course of three hours you've traveled to four different bars and consumed a periodic table of shots consisting of every color you've ever imagined and some you haven't. Flo heading the front of the line that you're now stumbling along announces the next stop is the last bar of the night and shortly thereafter, leads you through a door made of beads and into the Smiling Budha. You show the bartender your wristband and are handed a mix drink. It tastes like a discontinued flavor of Pepsi. Just as your squeezing your lime into it, you feel a hand on your shoulder. Some of the british kids you were tubing with made their way here too. They pull you out onto the dancefloor. The lights are spinning and everything starts to blur like some post impressionist painting. You sharpen your vision for just enough time to spot the DJ, who you recognize as the Scandanavian backpacker you shared a bus with in Cambodia. He's mixing house music with impeccable skill. You keep dancing. Flo is standing next to you bopping his head.
"Good time, yeah" He gestures at the Dj.
you nod. "Yeah, Incredible time"
Flo smiles, winks and vanishes into thin air.
At least that's how I picture it. So its time for another ROOM TEMPERATURE, the backpacking disco house monthly that travels throughout the city. Our latest resting place is the great Smiling Budha, which would certainly be more at home in the pages of the lonely planet guide to Southeast Asia than on College st. Never the less this is a great space, and if you may have even been there before to see a friends band, but you haven't seen it like this. Were very happy to say that the incredibly talented Colin Bergh will be joining us to house your bodies. Colin does it all, and amongst been the one man in the one man band Wyrd Visions and a soda aflicionado, hes also a great Dj. He's been a staple in Toronto nightlife for years as part of the more proof gang, and one half of the great house night Pacific High. So come end your pub crawl with us and meet some people you'd like to stay in touch with.
Disco/ House/ Boogie all night, and best for all those traveling on a budget, its free.
