Producer's Edition / Beat Battle

July 27th, Zulu Jam will feature a Producer's Edition, paying tribute to the production aspect of Hip Hop music. This evening will feature a highly anticipated beat battle. Producers from the Northwest region will be able to register to enter online and the top 16 will be chosen to compete. Each producer will be able to play their beats in a head to head tournament style competition until the winner is revealed, baring special prizes and the 2012 Zulu Jam Producer Champion title!
FORMAT
Prelims - 1:00 / 2 rounds each
(one round must integrate Sample Flip) (top 16)
1st Round - 1:00 / 1 round each (top 8)
Semi-finals - 1:30 / 2 rounds each (top 4)
Finals - 2:00 / 2 rounds each (top 2)
The top 16 registrants will be selected by a panel of esteemed judges and given an opportunity to enter the preliminary round.
Each producer plays two beats at exactly 60 seconds, one of which must include the Sample Flip.
The top 8 contestants will be chosen. During the 1st round, each producer will play one beat at exactly 60 seconds.
4 semi-finalists will be chosen and compete head to head against another producer. Each producer will play 2 beats consecutively at exactly 90 seconds.
The top 2 finalists will compete for the champion title, cash and prizes.
SAMPLE FLIP
Each contestant will be provided a sample that will be distributed 2 weeks prior to the battle and must be incorporated in some manner in the preliminary round. Judges will be looking to see how uniquely flipped the sample is used.
REGISTRATION
To register in the Zulu Jam Producer's Edition beat battle you must submit an email to 206zulu@gmail.com with the following:
1. Name
2. Stage name
3. Phone
4. Email
5. Audio examples of at least (3) or more of your beats from a site link such as Soundcloud.com, Bandcamp.com, etc or attached as mp3 files.
Deadline for registration is Monday, July 2nd.
JUDGING
Judges TBA.
The beats are judged on the following:
1. Originality / Technique: Is the beat well chopped or simply looped? Are the samples recognizable?
2. Sonic Clarity / Mix: Are the high's high and the low's low?
3. Compositions / Transitions: Are there any switch ups?
4. Variety / Versatility: Are you presenting a good range of music?
Organizers and judges selected do not tolerate bias or discrimination in any form including association, affiliation, technical-preferences, creed, ethnicity, or gender. Leave egos at home. This is a positive event in the name of good spirited competition and artistic expression. No weapons, alcohol or drugs permitted on premises.
