I AM FREDDIE MAYS

When a band take on the name of a ruthless character in a movie that loosely portrays the exploits of a notorious real-life gangster, you can hazard a guess as to what will soon be presented before you. I Am Freddie Mays uncharacteristically conform to this.

If you are now eagerly anticipating a ferocious and all-round face-melting assault on your key senses, then you are unlikely to be disappointed. These traits were displayed in the south coast quintet’s debut EP, The Carrier, which was unleashed only 2-months into their existence and it would appear as though this rapid emergence set the benchmark and pace for the bands explosive development. The Carrier combines the bands various facets in a 4-track, heavy, dirty, sleaze-fuelled barrage.

I Am Freddie Mays have only just reached the halfway point in their first year together, but drawing ever nearer, 2012 is set to continue at full speed. They have just announced a re-release of their debut EP, The Carrier, followed by a split EP with Birmingham’s, The Catharsis, due for release in early 2012. Both will be available through UK indie label, Sabbath Town Records.

If 2011 is anything to go by, few would argue that IAFM are a band on the fringe of crashing onto the national scene and undoubtedly one’s to watch in 2012.
