PALLAVI- Indian Classical Music (Vocals) event, Symbhav 2012
The oldest and most pristine musical tradition in the world - Indian Classical Music. PA comes from Padam or Phrase, LLA comes from Layam or Rhythm and Vi comes from Vinyasam or Imagination.
Rules for PALLAVI, the Indian Classical Music (Vocals) event, Symbhav 2012
1. Participation is open to college students only and must be pursuing a regular under graduate or a post graduate degree.
2. Carnatic and Hindustani Classical Music participants will be judged together.
3. Except an electronic Tanpura and electronic Taal-box, no other instrument(s) will be made available.
4. Judges decision shall be final and shall not be questioned by the participants.
5. Participants singing Carnatic will have to sing one piece which can be a Krithi or a Keerthanam or a Varnam. Geetham, Swarajathi, Padam, Javali, Thillana and pieces considered Thukkadas are not allowed. Participants are also advised to sing one or more from the following: Aalapana, Neraval or Kalpana Swarams though it is not compulsory.
6. Participants singing Hindustani will have to sing a Raag followed by a Bandish, Dhrupads, Khayals or Taranas. Bhajans, Tappas, Ghazals etc. are not allowed. Participants are also advised to sing one or more of the following: Anibaddh Aalap, Bol Aalap or Taan though it is not compulsory.
7. A maximum of one accompaniment is allowed for both Hindustani and Carnatic participants. If you have no accompaniment, you can use our electronic Taal box.
8. Participants are requested to register themselves as early as possible since there will be a cap of 30 participants.
9. Maximum 3 entries per college.
10. There will be a time limit of a minimum of 4 minutes and a maximum of 8 minutes. Subject to the number of participants and at the discretion of Judges, time limit can be reduced or increased.
11. Cell phones should be switched off while the event is on. Violation of this will lead to disqualification.
Judges:
We will be having 2 judges who are eminent in the fields of Hindustani and Carnatic music respectively. All participants will have the additional privilege of listening to a live performance by both our judges, on conclusion of our event.
Prize money:
1st place - Rs. 6,000 in cash
2nd place - Rs. 4,000 in cash
3rd place - Rs. 2,000 in cash
Additionally, special gift vouchers will be provided to the top 5 participants.
With a time-limit of 8 mins and prize-money of Rs. 6,000, you will be making Rs. 750 per minute. So, why wait?
