ACOUSTIC BAND EVENTS- “UNPLUGGED 101”
Do you love playing music? Are you bored of drop-tuned, distorted power chords? Do you feel that incessant head-banging and djent is annoying? Then Unplugged 101 is the event for you.! Awesome prizes for the top 3 bands. So unplug those processors, break out the djembes and get ready to blow some minds!

RULES:
• 12 minutes ON STAGE (Inclusive of setup time)
• 6 members to a band maximum
• Participants may perform only in English
• Songs may be covers or originals. Extra points for creativity.
• No electric instruments or processors. Electric bass guitars may be used. Keyboards may be used only with the Grand Piano patch.
• Vocals are compulsory. Purely instrumental pieces are not allowed.
• All participants must have a valid college id(if Symbhav ids work that too)
• A standard 5 piece drum kit, mics, cables, and amplifiers will be provided. All other instruments must be brought by the bands themselves.
• At least 2 different instruments must be used.
• One person cannot participate in more than one band.
• There will be two rounds: elims and finals.
• For the elims, participants must send in their entries through e-mail to both the Event Heads. All participants are requested to send CONTACT: details (Phone numbers and Email IDs) of their team members to the Event Heads while sending their entries for the Elims.
• A total of 15 bands will be selected for the finals which will be held during Symbhav.
• Registrations for the finals will start ONE HOUR prior to the beginning of the event.

DUMB CHARADES
What is Dumb Charades? You act out a movie title to your teammates and if they get it right, you win. Simple right? Think again. Symbhav 2012 brings to you the all time favorite party game repackaged in the most innovative fashion you can imagine. Not only do you require acting ability, you need to have a profound knowledge of movies as well. Witty thinking and sharp features are the essential tools!

• Three member teams
• 2 rounds for event.
• First round – Eliminations. Each team gets on chit with three movies on them and 60 seconds to act them out. Top 6 teams’ progress.
• Second round – Finals
• There will be five rounds in the finals. Cash prizes for top three teams.
• Cross teams are permitted. But if the team contains participants from SLS, then only half the prize will be awarded.
• On the spot registrations are allowed.

FULL ON NAUTANKI - ON THE SPOT ACTING
Lights, Camera, Action! If you think these are the most magical three words ever uttered and you have what is called the ‘Acting ka keeda’ then Full on Nautanki is one event that you cannot afford to miss. We have some funny and tricky situations for you to showcase your acting skills to our judge(s) and if you manage to give a Filmfare worthy performance, we have good moolah for you to take back home.

RULES:
•‘Khiladi’ – 1 (individual event), No restriction on number of participants from the same college. Maximum 50 participants in the event to be selected on a first come first serve basis.
•‘Waqt’ – Max. 3 minutes.
•‘Terminator’ – No eliminations, only 1 round.
•‘The Details’ – Situations will be allotted to the participants by draw of chits. Each Participant will get reasonable time (minimum 5 minutes) to prepare a 3 minute piece and present it in front of the judge/s.
•‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ - No additional marks for use of props but originality and creativity will help you score better.
•‘Godfather’ – In case of any dispute, the decision of the event heads/judge(s) will be binding on all the participants.

• Rounds: Eliminations and Finals.
•Number of Participants: Team of 3 to 5 members. There will be a cap of 20 participating teams, selection to be done strictly on a first come first serve basis. On the spot registrations will be allowed depending on the availability of slots.
•Elimination round: 4 minutes. Final round: 6 minutes.
•Finals: 6 Teams to qualify.
•Teams have to advertise a product using different forms of expression like a short skit, jingles, slogans, punch lines and/or any other innovative form.

MUSIC AND LYRICS - WESTERN SOLO SINGING
So you think you have a melodious voice? A voice which may grab you the title of ‘Adele’ or maybe you can rap like ‘Eminem’. If yes, then well this is the platform for you to come and showcase your skills and mesmerize the audience! The Annual Symbhav - western solo vocal competition, a must, not only for budding singers but the bathroom performers as well. Come, join us, take the leap and experience the thrill that only music can bring.

RULES:
There will be one Elims and one Final.
Time limit:The time limit for the Elims will be 3 minutes. For the finals, every participant will get 5+1 minutes on stage (including set up time). Buzzer will be sounded when 1 minute remains.
There will be a total of two rounds in the finals.
First round: Strictly theme based. Only wind instruments, acoustic guitar and keyboard (only on piano mode) are allowed. NO percussion allowed.
Second round: This will be a karaoke round. The participants can choose any song of their choice. Participants must bring their own back-up tracks.
GENERAL:
1.Maximum 3 members per team (1 singer +1or 2 accompanists). Not more than two participants per college are permitted.
2.There will be a cap of 30 participants for the Elims. On the spot registrations will be allowed subject to availability of slots. 10 participants will qualify to proceed for the finals. Participants are requested to give valid phone numbers at the time of registration.
3.No participant can perform Gospel songs.
4.Theme: In keeping with the theme of Symbhav, a list of songs that are connected with the theme ‘Carnival of Change’ will be given to the finalists for the first round, which will be made available on the website at least a week before the event. Each finalist will have to perform on any one song from this list. Failure to comply with this theme will result in disqualification.
5.The participants may perform the chorus and one stanza of any song of their choice for the Elims.

PALLAVI- Indian Classical Music (Vocals) Event.
This enchanting music binds the whole country and unites it. Ranging from small to big events, from birth to death, from religious rites to seasonal festivals, it’s always been a mood lifter. Come and be a part of the legends and mystical lore that lace Indian Classical Music. Enchant the people around you with the soothing Raagas and Taal.

RULES:
1. Participants are also advised to sing one or more of the following: Anibaddh Aalap, Bol Aalap or Taan though it is not compulsory.
2. A maximum of one accompaniment is allowed for both Hindustani and Carnatic participants.
3. Participants are requested to register themselves as early as possible since there will be a cap of 30 participants. Participants are requested to give their phone numbers while registering for the event.
4. Maximum 3 entries per college.
5. There will be a time limit of a minimum of 4 minutes and a maximum of 8 minutes. Subject to the number of participants and at the discretion of Judges, time limit can be reduced or increased.
6. Cell phones should be switched off while the event is on. Violation of this will lead to disqualification.

PANCHAM - Hindi Solo Singing.
Ever heard a song on the radio and felt you could do a better job? Ever felt that you’re good enough to win any talent show you watch? Want to be the next big sensation in the Indian Music circuit? Grab the mike and let the world know what you can do with your voice and let the music spread with “Pancham”, the light Hindi music solo event at Symbhav 2012. If you have the voice, we have the stage for you!

RULES:
1. The event will have two rounds- Eliminations and Finals.
2. Participants are permitted to use maximum one accompanying instrument, which can either be played by the Participant himself, or by an accompanist. Participants will have to bring their own instruments.
3. Keyboard as an accompaniment is allowed, but without keyboard sequencing.
4. Participants are allowed to use an Electronic Tanpura/Metronome apart from the accompanist. Participants have to bring their own Electronic Tanpura/Metronome.
5. Karaoke tracks or backing tracks are not allowed.
ELIMINATION ROUN DS:
1. Each Participant will get 3 minutes + 1 minute for setup.
2. Participants are free to sing any light Hindi song of their choice. Participants are not allowed to sing Classical or Ghazal.
3. Participants will have to register maximum by 22nd February, 2012. There will be a cap of 50 participants. Participants are requested to give their CONTACT: details (valid phone number and Email ID will registering for the event).

RULES:
1. There will be an elims and a final round for the event.

FASHION SHOW.
Fashion is about change! Every era heralds a change in fashion, (be it the bows from the 1960s or the platform soled shoes of the 1970s).Clothing that we now take for granted were once the latest style. The man's dress shirt, for instance, became the fashion rage over a century ago. And the woman's sweater became an established style back in the 1920's.Changing trends in fashion have always reflected social and cultural change. India is on the brink of tremendous social change! And so the theme for the Fashion show; ‘Glamour’ at Symbhav ’12, is “Seasons of Change”. Let your creative juices flow, and unleash your inner fashionista!

RULES:
• The theme for the Fashion Show at Symbhav 12’ is “Seasons of Change”. Teams may interpret the theme in any manner and showcase their performance in accordance with the following rules:
O The total number of participants in each team shall not exceed 10.
O Each team performance shall not exceed 8 minute .Team performances exceeding the given time minutes will incur 5 negative marks.
O Participating teams may use props and music for their performance.
• All participating teams shall register online (before the last date for such registration) the number of participants and details including the names and CONTACT: details of each participant.
• Upon registration each team will be allotted a number. Each team’s performances shall be in the order of these allotted numbers.
• Teams registering after the last date for registrations will not be entertained.

RULES:
1. Number of Participants: 3-8 band members + 1 Accompanist (optional).
An accompanist may be used to handle the sound and lights control during the set up and performance of the band, to make sure the band can customize as per its requirements. An accompanist is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended.
2. Pre- Eliminations: Bands have to submit a demo recording of their music to the email address which shall be notified soon.
3. Eliminations (subject to participation): Based on the demos, eight bands shall be short listed to perform in the eliminations.
4. Finals: 3 bands shall be selected to perform in the finals (based on their demos or performance at the eliminations).

GROUP DANCE COMPETITION.
A group of Dance Enthusiasts + music + choreography = GROUP DANCE!
But of course, at Symbhav, everything happens with a twist, and this time we are asking you to add to the above equation... A THEME! And of course, it only deems fit, that as one of the flagship events of Symbhav, the theme be - Celebration of Change!!!
Now whether you want to celebrate the changes in the political arena of the country, or portray the changes in Hindi Cinema, or chronicle the different dance styles through ages or dance about the change in the social standing of women.... we leave it up to you!! But know this; you will be getting graded on the implementation of your theme. We also expect you to use a PROP at some point of time in your dance routine! And then not only that, we also plan on having an ELIMINATIONS ROUND, considering the astounding number of registrations we had last year.

RULES:
• Time Limit-
1. ELIMNS- 4 - 6 mins (including stage setup and clearance time)

• Team Size –
1. Minimum 8 members and maximum 14 + 2 CAs
2. At all times during the act there must be minimum 6 members on stage.
3. Teams comprising of students from different colleges will be permitted to compete.
4. However only one team per college will be allowed.
• Props –
1. Use of props for atleast 1 minute is MANDATORY.
2. Participating teams must carry their own props.
3. However the use of fluid, flame or any other hazardous substances is strictly prohibited
4. The organizers hold the discretion of allowing the props on stage.
• Pre-recorded music should be brought in a CD mp3 format only (Other formats may not be supported on the computer. No pen drives etc will be entertained.) Each team must carry with them 3 CDs containing their piece for the round ONLY. The CD must be handed over at the registration desk on the day of the event.
• The Teams must COMPULSORILY bring along 2 CAs, for assistance in music etc.
• Obscenity and/or vulgarity will strictly lead to disqualification.
• Violation of any of the rules mentioned above will affect the scores adversely and may lead to disqualification as well. Decision of the authorities at SLS will be final in this regard.
• Decision of the judges in regard to results will be final and binding.

SOLO DANCE.
Dancing is not just about the outward flow of energy or passion or a language of the soul for the deep-seated desires. It is much more. It is the ultimate freedom to reach out to a spectator and with one move, one pose change their perception about the performing art. It can be used as a medium to communicate your thoughts, views and even change perceptions. It’s one powerful channel which can stir up soles and may even end up giving you goose bumps! And well with our Symbhav’s 2012 theme, Celebration of Change’, it’s time that we express our inner desires through this performing art and be the change that we want to see!
This SYMBHAV, (Solo Dance) is here to let all give up to this need of expression.

time). Exceeding this time limit may cause disqualification.
3. Participants are free to use any form of dance.
4. Music piece for the round (i) has to be brought in .mp3 format.
5. Participants will have to perform impromptu on the given music for 2 mins.
4. Use of props is allowed so far they are not likely to cause any accident.
5. Any kind of obscenity on stage will cause disqualification of the respective participant.
6. The judge's decision will be unquestionably binding on the participants.
