Please join us for this critical discussion on ways we can work as a community toward ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Philadelphia. This is a follow up discussion from the town hall meeting that took place on January 5, 2012.

Key leadership from the Health Department and the AIDS Activities Coordinating Office (AACO) have been invited. Based on email communications, Dr. Don Schwarz, Deputy Mayor for Health and Opportunity and Health Commissioner and Jane Baker, Director of AACO are expected to be present at this town hall meeting.

The main focus of the meeting between the Health Department leadership, AACO and the community is to address:

1) The Health Department’s local strategy to end HIV, including the ways that these efforts are coordinated (and promoted) among stakeholders and affected communities;

2) Increasing community and stakeholder engagement in the development of a local HIV prevention strategy;

3) Steps to increase community awareness on HIV related initiatives, including funding;

4) The formation and future uses of the Resource Allocations Advisory Committee (RAAC), including how members are selected and processes to ensure a lack of “non-conflicted membership”; and

5) Establishing greater transparency around the performance of City-funded community based organizations and the Health Department towards ending the HIV epidemic (e.g. testing numbers, etc.)

This is open to the public and there will be time at the event for community members to provide 90 second testimonials to provide recommendations to Health Department and AACO officials on how we can improve or HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment efforts in Philadelphia.
