Ember Schrag (Brooklyn):

Ember Schrag grew up in western Nebraska. She spent several years carving out a space in the Midwest as a distinctive lyricist, singer and guitarist. 2010's acclaimed EP Jephthah’s Daughter (Eh?), and Schrag’s debut studio effort, A Cruel, Cruel Woman (Lone Prairie 2009), were preceded by nearly a dozen home-recorded CD-Rs and cassettes. Her second full length album, The Sewing Room, was released on July 10, 2012 on Edible Onion + Single Girl, Married Girl.
Schrag has toured with Kath Bloom and collaborated with Susan Alcorn, P.G. Six, The Chiara Quartet, Philip Gayle, Amy Denio, Dino Felipe, Low Hums, The Black Twig Pickers, L. Eugene Methe and Lucky Bone. Schrag also performs improvised electroacoustic music in the project Office Park (upcoming album on Humbug out of Norway), a collaboration with instrument builder Bryan Day. Recently relocated to Brooklyn, NY, Ember is the uest curator for the highwire Music series for the month of September

Eskimeaux (Philadelphia): “I was caught off guard by Eskimeaux. The internet has conditioned me to expect mediocrity from everything, and beauty from nothing. To encounter something of both excellence and beauty is rare indeed. Gabrielle Smith, the woman behind the Eskimeaux moniker, has a knack for assembling heartbreaking songs of astounding sublimity. Her stark vocals rise and fall above minimalistic arrangements, placing her poignant sense of lyricism in an icy frame. Quality production is expected in an era when anyone with a laptop has access to studio grade technology, but quality lyrics are not. "You're a prisoner of your bedroom/ every shoulder's already wet/ and no one wants to hear the same story again/ fortify your heavy chest" sings Smith on "Untitled, Part I", conveying a deeply personal sense of loss in an intimately relatable way.” - Live For the Funk

Meaner Pencil (Brooklyn):

“Amazing voice merging with cello deep sounds caught my being as I was lost in the subway. people were quiet and entranced by her echoing music. I missed my train but was really glad to be made to sit and listen some more. So i sat next to her on the bench and the music ran through me, and I watched the people across the platform mesmerized by her reverberating song. Entrancing snippets of words held aloft by bowstrokes and plucking and more of that wondrous voice.” - The Buskers Project

Shaina Kapeluck (Philadelphia):

Shaina Kapeluck of The New Heaven And The New Earth, Br'er and other bands closely related to the Edible Onion label starts the evening off with an a cappella set of old English ballads.
