Miguel Angel de Armas was born in Havana. At the early age of 9 years started his musical studies at the Conservatory Amadeo Roldan and later graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte with a Bachelor in Cuban Percussion. In the late seventies began his professional career playing with several bands and also as a teacher.

In 1988, he founded together with prestigious Cuban musicians, coming most of them from Irakere, an important band named NG La Banda Orchestra, under the general direction of the notable Cuban musician José Luis Cortés. For over a decade he toured and performed with this band in countries such Curacao, Venezuela, Brazil, Nicaragua, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize, Suriname, Martinique, San Martin, Puerto Rico, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Bulgaria, Monaco, Andorra, Japan and also attending periodically to the most important jazz festivals and cultural events of the world, like the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Nice Jazz Festival, Nantes Jazz Festival, Normandia Jazz Festival, Color Café Festival, Río de Janeiro Film Festival, and many others.

In the 90’s in collaboration with other members of NG La Banda founded an interesting project and toured to Costa Rica to record The New Cuban Jazz. Volume I at Marsol Studios, this award-winning album, via Bis Music, was the 1997 Best Jazz Record.

During his musical career, he has recorded over 50 albums, some of them for outstanding record labels and collaborated with Cuban artists like Chucho Valdes e Irakere, Los Van Van, Pablo Milanés, Compay Segundo, Orquesta La Revé, Orlando Valle Maraca, Frank Fernández, César Portillo de la Luz, Frank Domínguez, Robertico Carcassés, Bobby Carcassés, Los Papines, Pancho Amat, El Guayabero, Candido Fabré, Yumuri y sus hermanos, just to mention some of them.

He has performed at famous scenes as the Lincoln Centre in New York, sharing stage with figures like Michel Camilo, Randy Brecker, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul and The Zawinul Syndicate, McCoy Tyner, Earth Wind and Fire, Take 6, Dominic Miller, David Murray, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Willy Colón, Oscar de León, Frankie Ruiz, Héctor Lavoe, Roberto Roena, José Cheo Feliciano, Luis García, Andy Montañez, Tommy Olivencia, Papo Lucca, Diky Gaytán, Afrocuba All Stars, Danilo Pérez, David Sánchez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Daniel Valentin, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, Ivan Lins, Clark Terry, Tania Maria, Chico Freeman, Dave Valentin, Sammy Figueroa, Robbie Ammen, Gilberto Gil, Ermeto Pascual and others.MARC DECHO

Juno award winning multi percussionist Angel Araos originally hails from Chile, now based in Ottawa, Angel is known for his diversity and performs a wide variety of south american, brazilian, cuban and flamenco music on a vaste range of percussion.
