The Ottawa Bach Choir (OBC) performs its tenth anniversary concert, an authentic Baroque performance of Bach's Matthäus-Passion (St. Matthew Passion), BWV 244, on Saturday, March 10, 2012, 7:00 pm at Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper Street. Under the direction of its Founder and Artistic Director, Lisette Canton, the OBC presents--in what promises to be the choral event of the year--the very work with which the OBC began, ten years to the day! Joining the choir will be an array of Canadian and international early music stars as well as the Ottawa Children's Choir and the Christ Church Cathedral Boys Choir. A world-class Baroque orchestra, led by British Baroque violinist, Adrian Butterfield, accompanies the choir, and a celebratory reception follows the performance.



The Ottawa Bach Choir turns ten on the very day of this magnificent performance with the very work for which the OBC was originally created to perform. Less than a year ago, this world-class professional ensemble debuted at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City to critical acclaim: "...you immediately heard the choir's chief assets: a bright, clear and transparent sound; a springy feel for rhythm; beautifully shaded dynamics; and exemplary diction..." (Steve Smith, The New York Times, May 24, 2011). The choir has also been invited on 3 European tours with invitations to return, 2 Mexican tours, performances all across Canada, over 25 recordings and broadcasts on CBC and Radio-Canada, and 5 of its own critically acclaimed CDs, of which its latest, Cantate Domino, was just released in honour of the choir's 10th anniversary.

À l’occasion de son 10e anniversaire, le Chœur Bach d'Ottawa (OBC) présente une interprétation authentiquement baroque de la Matthäus-Passion (Passion selon saint Matthieu) de Bach, BWV 244, le samedi 10 mars 2012, à 19 h à l’église unie Dominion-Chalmers, située au 355, rue Cooper. Sous la direction de sa fondatrice et directrice artistique, Lisette Canton, OBC présente, dans ce qui promet d'être l'événement choral de l'année, la toute première œuvre interprétée par le chœur, dix ans plus tôt, jour pour jour! Se joindra au chœur un éventail de vedette nationales et internationales de la musique ancienne de même que l'Ottawa Children’s Choir et le Christ Church Cathedral Boys Choir. Un orchestre baroque de calibre international, avec à sa tête le violoniste baroque britannique, Adrian Butterfield, accompagnera le chœur pendant ce concert qui sera suivi d’une réception festive.



Le Chœur Bach d'Ottawa célèbre ses dix ans le jour même de ce merveilleux concert en interprétant l’œuvre même qui fut à l’origine de sa création. Il y a moins d’un an, cet ensemble professionnel de calibre international a foulé pour une première fois les planches du prestigieux Carnegie Hall de New York où il a été acclamé par la critique : « … les principaux atouts du chœur s’entendent d’entrée de jeu: un son brillant, clair et transparent, une aptitude pour les rythmes entraînants, un contrôle harmonieux des nuances et une diction exemplaire... » (Steve Smith, le New York Times, le 24 mai 2011). Le Chœur a également été invité à prendre part à trois tournées européennes et à deux tournées mexicaines. Il s’est produit partout au Canada et ses enregistrements et concerts ont été diffusés plus de 25 fois sur les ondes de CBC et de Radio-Canada. Il a enregistré cinq CD acclamés par la critique dont le dernier, Cantate Domino, vient d’être lancé à l’occasion du 10e anniversaire de l’ensemble.
