We are so pleased to being doing this! Unfortunately it was too hairy to bring Sexual Objects to Preston this time as they are recording a 6 Music session in Salford on the evening they were available, but we're working on a Continental show for the future. Meanwhile, thanks a lot to Gullivers for giving us the opportunity to do the show.

THE SEXUAL OBJECTS

Edinburgh's answer to the Glasgow School, Davey Henderson has been making astute, if financially unrewarding, art pop moves for over 30 years. The Sexual Objects are his latest band following The Fire Engines, Win and Nectarine Number 9. Davey's possibly most well-known for The Fire Engines, who famously injected funk and tunes into the post punk template and have been lauded by everyone with brains since the early 80s, most recently by Franz Ferdinand who recorded a split single with them during a brief reformation period a few years ago.

The Sexual Objects have been going since 2008 and dropped 4 amazing singles between 2008 and 2010 (plus a split 7" with Peter Parker) which were collected on last year's 'Cucumber' album. There are rumours of an album of new material, produced by Boards of Canada, but we're not holding our breath!

There are nods to (and personnel from) Davey's previous bands: Fire Engines' rhythmic suss, Win's glammed-up aesthetic and the occasional discordant undertones of the Nectarines. This time Davey's also added some Merrie England style 60s pop-sike to the mix. Bobby Gillespie is a famous fan, you may have seen them supporting Primal Scream on a couple of their arena dates last year. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see Sexual Objects in the North West!

FACTORY STAR

Factory Star was formed in December 2008 by Martin Bramah, founder member of both that English institution The Fall and then the Blue Orchids with whom he recorded the astonishing The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain) LP for Rough Trade. “I wanted to make a fresh start.” explains Martin “You know, dump the old baggage and put my best foot forward”. The band have been gigging regularly for over two years, also recording radio sessions for Marc Riley (BBC6 Music) and Bob Osborne (Salford City Radio), and in this time Bramah has honed an intense live sound.

Music nowadays moves at a glacial pace, often three or four years to make an album, and it shows. Factory Star's album: Enter Castle Perilous was recorded in three days in January 2011 then mixed the following weekend. Less time than many bands spend getting a snare sound.

Enter Castle Perilous is a raw, urgent record. Producer Nick Halliwell (The Granite Shore) knew it was crucial to capture this live intensity, ensuring that nothing got in the way of the album’s articulacy, so the band were allowed to lash out with Bramah delivering the words live whilst thrashing away at his guitar, most songs featuring a single overdub - if that. The resulting album speaks volumes.

KILL PRETTY

Kill Pretty include important figures from the Manchester post punk scene: the legendary Moet from the Hamsters (who featured on Mark E Smith's Cog Sinister 'Disparate Cogscienti' compilation) and Mike Leigh, the 'teddy boy drummer' who played with The Fall on Dragnet and two of their best singles, Rowche Rumble and Fiery Jack. They also feature Chris Dutton from Factory Star. Kill Pretty will be recording new material with Craig Scanlon (The Fall) and Larry Gott (James) in the near future.

TASER PUPPETS

Formed 2008, Taser Puppets are 3 people who play vocal driven music with vigour tightly laced with dark humour. A stripped to the bone sound where there's no place for guitar ego & the song is king. Having played most of the top venues in the north up to 2010, we've seen the pitfalls of pay to play, Anthony H Wilson wannabees, so we thought a fresh approach was needed both for us & the people who pay good money to enjoy music. Everyone deserves better. At the moment we are embarking on recording our first album where our ideas & belief in our self penned music will hopefully shine through
