Something nice written by Well North Of London...

Silver Sound Explosion

A new band to us; when I first heard them I imagined they're record collection straight away; The Pixies, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth.... I wasn't 'all' wrong as there are tinges of allsorts, but most importantly they have their very own unique little gem. It's aggressively innocent, soothing, well-thought and at times cheeky, but how? I have no fucking idea but it's great and not only are they our new favourite band but potentially yours and everybody else's in the not too distant future.:: Silver Sound Explosion :: Sidekicks b/w Telephone Wired

30 September 2011 / Promo / 2 Trk Download

By Cath Aubergine

As I write, MM Towers is bathed in blazing sunshine – and when I’ve finished I’m headed for a beer garden...despite it being the first of October. I’m only telling you this because if we’re going to have a bizarre late-arriving summer then we’ll need some sunshine indiepop to go with it, and this sparkling little debut from local trio Ben, Kirsty and Chris will do the job perfectly. This is what all those overhyped American bands citing C86 indiepop and surf influences think they sound like but don’t. It’s a bit Pastels - even down to the simple and sweet chiming guitar solo on “Sidekicks” - a bit space pop, a bit Californian dream. It’s a bit fuzzpop era Marychain and I’m not sure if Kirsty plays her two drums standing up, but the point is she sounds like she does, and it’s light without being fluffy. Actually forget the beer, how about a thick shake and a cruise in an open top jalopy?

Fran Ashcroft & Silver Sound Explosion

~ How do Magnets Work? ~

Fran Ashcroft, News

Well, using a 1″ Studer 8 track tape recorder moves those magnetic oxide particles around like nobody’s business..and encourages me to make far bolder mix balances than usual; like those old records with the vocals very, very upfront which still feel natural. How about pushing guitar solos, vocals and percussion up to +10db or more? It made for very dynamic results and lots of impact within an extremely stripped down arrangement. Hell, the kit didn’t even have a kick drum….but the instruments blended beautifully. A very happy session for me and the excellent Silver Sound Explosion.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~LIVE REVIEW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silver Sound Explosion live review from the Temple of Floone Fanzine (May, Issue 4)
Next up was the grungy, surfer style, rock ‘n’ roll of Silver Sound Explosion. This was their debut gig and we are proud to have had them at the start of their musical adventure. There’s no getting away from it they are an odd looking bunch. These defiantly aren’t your pre-made, Topshop processed, shoe staring, indie outfit. Even the drummer doesn’t conform to the usual, She stands tall and only has two drums to boast of. But it all fits and the sound swings together in that lazy Californian way. The awesomely named Ben Fuzz slurs out lyrics and is all heart and soul. The whole thing is carried along on the bumping bass. All in all it makes you want to grow your hair out, pull on a wet suit and jump on a boogie board. I think we’ll all agree that that is no bad thing. Look out for the single release in June on itunes recorded with producer Fran Ashcroft.
