As early as seven years of age Peter Grant wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and take to the stage. Cutting his teeth performing on the club circuit, by his early teens he was playing weddings, bingo halls, jazz clubs, cruise ships and even gangsters parties and was already well on the way to becoming the consummate performer he is today.
Hailing from Guisely, West Yorkshire, school was pretty much a distraction for Peter away from his one love, music. He would spend hours teaching himself piano and mimicking his musical heroes Frank Sinatra and Buddy Greco.
Shortly after turning sixteen Peter came to the attention of a music industry manager, who spotting his potential offered him a contract. Within two weeks he was recording at the legendary Abbey Road studios working with a 50-piece orchestra on demos for his debut album.
Peter Grant signed to Universal Music while still aged just sixteen. His first album ‘New Vintage’, a collection of standards and big band classics, reached the Top 10 of the album charts, going Gold and selling over 200,000 copies. A UK tour, multiple TV appearances, screaming fans and paparazzi followed, giving Peter his first full taste of success.
Although not as successful as its predecessor Peter’s second release ‘Traditional’, again an album of covers, charted well. Whilst Universal were ready to move forward and start work on a third album Peter had other ideas. Although he enjoyed the success and all that came with it, Peter also had a strong desire to write and record an album of his own songs and took the brave move to leave Universal to pursue this dream.
