As the title suggests, this concert will feature music composed by Dave and Darius Brubeck, as well as standards associated with the world famous Dave Brubeck Quartet.

Dave Brubeck’s 1959 album Time Out is one of the most popular jazz albums of all time and the track Take Five with its distinctive 5/4 time signature is played the world over.

Last year Darius, together with his brothers, Chris and Dan and British saxophonist Dave O’Higgins celebrated Dave’s 90th birthday with a concert at Philharmonic Hall, which kicked off a UK “Brubecks Play Brubeck” tour and this same band will play a number of concerts, mainly in southern England in November.

On February 24th, Capstone Theatre will present Darius’ own quartet’s version of some of the Brubeck hits including Blue Rondo and Unsquare Dance. The quartet will also perform some of Darius’ own compositions.

Darius’ regular rhythm section, Matt Ridley and Wesley Gibbens recently toured Romania and Saudi Arabia with him and play on two Darius Brubeck Quartet CDs (“For Lydia and the Lion” and the new “Two and Four, To and Fro”) . These musicians together with Dave O'Higgins on sax provide a fresh and original rendering of old and new tunes.
