DeadLive Charity Haunted Sleep Over

Fund Raising for Claire House

26th October 2012

History:

The original house was built in about 1575, and has been expanded in several stages in Tudor, Georgian, and Queen Anne styles. The principal front, the west façade, was built in 1702.

Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their children stayed at Croxteth Hall on 9 October 1851 before visiting Liverpool the following day during torrential rain. However, the visit started fine with 700 members of the local gentry being entertained in the Hall grounds.

The Hall and its outbuilding are a Grade II* Listed Building, as are 3 of the outbuildings; another 15 buildings on the estate are Grade II. The Molyneux family lived at the Hall from the 16th century until 1972, when the last Earl died. His American-born widow Josephine, Countess of Sefton (1903–1980) - once a close friend of the Duchess of Windsor and nicknamed "Foxy" for her abundant auburn hair - continued to spend some time at Croxteth. She became the last member of the Molyneux family to reside in the hall.

When the last Earl died in 1972, a worldwide search was made for an heir to the title but without success.

Much of the original estate has since been sold off for development, but approximately 500 acres (2 km²) remain as a country park, which is open to the public and includes various play facilities for children. The estate also contains the historic Hall itself, open to the public for a small fee, as well as a maintained Victorian walled garden and a working country farm.

Paranormal Activity:

Many spirits are reported to be haunting Croxteth Hall including, a boy who stands by the fireplace in the dining room, a shadow of a figure in the billiard room, and the 6th Earl of Sefton walking around the tearoom.

Footsteps are heard along the corridors of the hall and the smell of tobacco can be detected in the servants room. There are constant electrical faults reported and when a electrician comes to mend the fault, they find nothing wrong.

Two people commented about a visit,We both heard heavy footsteps coming down the corridor outside the kitchen and through the window into the corridor a small hooded figure came up the hall and stopped in the doorway surprised to see us he had a strange horrific face with a funny nose and chin and wore a hood and a cloak.

When the park was used for sleep overs in the past One lady reported back saying,We had to sleep at...the hall. Every time you went down the stairs to go the toilet or get a drink you would see three dead bodies walking along the room. it was really scary! Everyone hated having to sleep there. However there was no choice. i never liked sleeping there it was so creepy! I’ll never go to the place again and i always get the creeps when i drive or walk past the entrance to the hall...

The Sixth Earl of Sefton has been sighted walking through the tea room and also in his former bedroom its like he is keeping guide of his property. An incorporeal young boy was once seen standing by the fireplace in the dining room, while other strange shadows have been reported drifting down various corridors. Footage from a CCTV camera in April 2009 reputedly shows a phantom figure moving across the grounds, though the image is more likely to be a close-up of an insect.
