EXPEDITION IN DETAIL:
DAY ONE: On arrival at Leh Airport, you will be received by our representative and transferred to your Hotel. You are advised to take full day rest for high altitude acclimatization. Evening, you can take an easy walk to the local market. Overnight stay at Hotel in Leh.
DAY TWO: Today, we shall drive to Khardungla Pass - (18380 feet) known as the Highest Motorable Road in the World.
From here, we Cycle back to Leh amidst a backdrop of spectacular scenary stretching from the Indus valley in the South over the endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range to the giants of the Saser Massif in the North. You can feel proud of a true achievement as you finish the trip with your final satisfying descent. Overnight stay at Guesthouse in Leh.
DAY THREE: LEH – STOK (20 MINUTES DRIVE). TREK FROM STOK TO MANKARMO (4250 M)
Early morning, we shall drive for around 20 mins to Stok village, from where our Trek begins. At Stok the pony man will load our big backpacks on the horses that are waiting for us. With our small daypacks we head off for Mancarmo through a beautiful valley, where there are unusual rock formations that point skywards in orange, purple, green colors. Mancarmo is the summer pasture of Stok villagers. Overnight stay in alpine tents at Mankarmo camp site
DAY FOUR: MANKARMO (4250 M) to BASE CAMP (5000 M)
After the breakfast, we start trekking along the stream on a rocky trail. On the way we can enjoy the beautiful Rocky Mountains among which we can find some wild animals like blue sheep and wild goats. Slowly and vertically ascending up along trail, we will reach the Base Camp. Surrounded by high mountains, we, at base camp (5000 m), we will prepare our self mentally and physically for the Summit day.
DAY FIVE: BASE CAMP(5000 M) – STOK KANGRI (6153 M) – BASE CAMP (5000 M)
Depending on your acclimatization, we shall start our Stok Kangri climbing today. (Else, we shall begin the expedition the next day) We leave early around 1:00 am or 2:00 am. Usually conditions are better in the night/morning, because it is colder and the snow will be hard, therefore making it easier to climb.
It is a strenuous walk, and in the last part we will most likely use not only ice axes, but also crampons and, maybe, even rope, depending on snow conditions. However, by the time we come close to the top, you will forget about the hardship as you are surrounded by spectacular views of the Himalayas in the sunrise. In good weather conditions we can see the Saser group in the Great Karakoram Range, where K2 lies. To bring good fortune, we leave our Khatag, a religious scarf, on the mountaintop with prayer flags. Leaving the peak, we go down to Base Camp and by the time we arrive, the only thing running in our mind is diving into our sleeping bags for a rest.
DAY SIX: BASE CAMP (5000 M)
In case if we could not climb the Stok Kangri peak because of the bad weather or altitude acclimatization problems, then we will try again today.
DAY SEVEN: BASE CAMP – STOK VILLAGE (4-5 HOURS). END OF TREK. DRIVE FROM STOK – LEH
From our Base camp, we descend all the way back to Stok village. This is a great walk crossing small streams. It takes about four to five hours to reach Stok village, where we are met by our waiting vehicles. We drive back to Leh where you will be checked into your Guesthouse for rest and refreshment. Overnight stay in Leh.
DAY EIGHT: Morning, we drive to Leh Airport for our onward journey with memories of a Lifetime!
