As many of you will have already seen, a little while ago we set up a Pleasefund.us page (http://www.pleasefund.us/projects/laughter-lines-leeds-comedy-festival-2012) in order to try and get the funding required to run Laughter Lines | Leeds Comedy Festival 2012.

Pleasefund.us is a crowdfunding platform designed to help artistic and creative projects gain the financial support they require in order to operate. People can donate money to the project (with rewards for donations) because they wish to make a contribution to what we're trying to do. This is not about donating huge amounts. The idea is that by encouraging a large amount of people to donate a small amount of money, we can reach the kind of target that will allow us to run a project that can be enjoyed by many people.

Each project is open for a limited time (our deadline is Sunday 11th March 2012) and unless we reach our fundraising target (£3500) by our deadline we will not receive any of the money that has been pledged to us.

What you may not know is that this isn't just an added extra designed to drum up a bit of cash. Achieving this fundraising target could well be the difference between running a festival this year only, and Leeds having a permanent annual comedy festival that can be enjoyed for years and years to come.

The festival will not make money that will go into our pockets. This fundraising drive is not about us profiting from people's generosity. It's about allowing us to deliver the best festival we can. We want to bring up new comedy from far flung places, and have people be able to afford a ticket. We want to show people that comedy can be inclusive and affordable.

If every University of Leeds student were to donate on our page, we would need just 10p from each person to reach our target.

If every Leeds resident (yes even the babies) were to donate 1p, we would almost double our target.

Even if you don't live in Leeds, please help us in our attempts to deliver this project to the best of our ability. Any donations are greatly appreciated, and we will not let you down in providing Leeds with a fantastic festival for 2012.
