The Allelujah! Laudamus Te a wordless ‘hymn of praise’ by the American composer Alfred Reed. Englishman Martin Ellerby’s Natalis is a through-composed symphony encapsulating the ideas of hope, struggle and triumph.
ArtForms is the local arts service for Leeds, and LUUMS and LUUMS Education are delighted to welcome them to perform with us again at this year's Charity Concert. The ArtForms Youth Percussion Ensemble will be performing a range of items, including Led Zeppelin's Fool in the Rain. The young musicians will be joined by students from Leeds University who have worked with them to produce this unique performance.
Chamber Choir explore a selection of European choral works. Bruckner’s motets, of which there are roughly forty, express his devout Catholicism. The Trois Chansons is one of the few choral works by Debussy. The Benedictio is one of the many sacred works by Estonian composer Urmas Sisask.
Stravinsky’s Firebird was written in 1910. The 1919 version will be performed, the most commonly heard today. Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, from 1880 was commissioned to commemorate the Russians’ defence of Moscow against Napoleon’s army at the Battle of Borodino in 1812.
This concert is in aid of Lost Chord. Lost Chord is dedicated to improving the quality of life and wellbeing of people living with dementia using interactive musical sessions to stimulate areas of the brain, which are still responding. It is an award-winning groundbreaking charity, which aspires to affect the lives of people struggling with dementia.
