Artsy Fartsy meets Nerdy Birdy in this event that features comics, comix, zines, and live music.
Admission is FREE (though the bands will accept donations).
FREE table space is available (first come, first served) to comic and zine creators, organizations, distros or other related vendors. Bring your own table. If you don't have a table, bring your publications anyway and we will figure something out. RSVP for exhibitors is not required, but is exhibitors, but is encouraged.
Music performances will include Attic Ted, Automatonic, Poopy Lungstuffing, Puppetrina and the Puppetrelles and Muzak John.
Attic Ted is an alternative band from San Marcos whose music has been described as "a sweet wet nightmare" (according to their MySpace page)..Vocalist and organist Grady Roper is also the former publisher of Propergander, a newspaper of "anticomics and stories" that ran for 66 issues and featured contributors from around the world.
Automatonic is Houston is the Houston based duo composed of Ilea Henderson and Shawna Mouser. Their music has been described as sounding like "everything and nothing and all you ever heard before but aren't sure when or where you were."
Poopy Lungstuffing aka Olivia Dvorak, is a singer, song writer, ukele player, sock monkey maker, cartoonist, artist, activist, silk screener, office worker and more. She is also co-founder of Super Happy Fun Land in her spare time.
Puppetrina and the Puppetrelles is a band of puppets that sing, play instruments and fight just like a real band.
Also, shane patrick boyle will be reading three works from his comics and zines. "Something I Wrote on the Way to Work" and "The Urban Barbarian" are poems he turned into comics and "Flying Man" is a prose adaptation of one of his superhero comics.
Costumes are encouraged. The more obnoxious, the better. There will be a costume contest at 10:30 with a $20 plus merchandise prizes including H-town Minicon t-shirts.
5pm: Doors open for set up
6pm: Doors open to public, comix and zines for sale 6pm-midnight
7:30pm: Poopy Lungstuffing, Puppetrina
8pm: Comic Book Poetry Reading by shane patrick boyle
8:30pm: Automatonic
9:45pm: Attic Ted
10:30pm: Costume Contest
11pm: Muzak John
We also have permission to show Ron Mann's 1988 documentary Comic Book Confidential and will be showing this in segments between performances.
