One of the year’s most anticipated concerts returns to Hartford. Started in 1993 by Founder and Artistic Director Daniel Salazar, Jr., Guitar Under the Stars has become an end of summer tradition that draws thousands of music lovers to the Hartford riverfront. Each year record-breaking crowds enjoy an evening of inspiring and exciting music with people literally dancing in the aisles, and this year brings a new level of anticipation.

Guitar Under the Stars founder and acclaimed guitarist Daniel Salazar, Jr. is proud to announce a much awaited collaboration: THE HARTFORD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA will be performing for the first time in the event’s history. The Hartford Symphony is widely recognized as one of America’s leading regional orchestras, and their participation certainly increases the level of excitement for this spectacular event.

The afternoon will begin with a extraordinary variety of music performed by the eclectic guitar and percussion Kaleidos Duo, and by jazz guitar virtuoso Frank Varella. The evening will conclude with renowned guitarist Daniel Salazar, Jr. performing a spectacular program with THE HARTFORD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, Connecticut’s premiere performing organization.

Mr. Salazar will perform selections from his exciting repertoire that fuses Spanish guitar with Latin and World rhythms. Joining him will be The Daniel Salazar Ensemble, plus a number of special guests: Flamenco guitar virtuoso Val Ramos, guitarist Lorena Garay from Puerto Rico, and vocalist Jose Paulo from Brazil. The Hartford Symphony Orchestra conducted by Emmett Drake will accompany them all.

The Daniel Salazar Ensemble features an outstanding group of internationally renowned musicians: drummer Gene Bozzi, who also performs as percussionist with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, bassist Genevieve Rose, one of the few female virtuosos on that instrument, Gonzalo Cortes from Chile who specializes in Andean flutes, Esteban Arrufat from Puerto Rico playing Latin Percussion, Roberto Clavijo from Chile playing charango (Latin American string instrument), zampoña (panflute) and percussion, pianist Abraham Sanchez from Venezuela and Flamenco fusion guitarist Daniel Salazar, III.

For this special collaboration with the HSO, Daniel Salazar has prepared brilliant new orchestral arrangements, including an exciting reworking of Asturias by Albeniz, a rendition of the beautiful Adagio from Concierto De Aranjuez by Rodrigo as well as music by the Italian film composer Morriccone and much more. The exhilarating program also brings together Spanish flamenco–inspired melodies and invigorating Latin rhythms with selections from Daniel’s highly popular repertoire of original compositions. Returning after his past acclaimed performances will be singer Jose Paulo from Brazil, who with his expressive and dramatic voice will interpret famous songs such as "Granada" by Lara and the Latin classic "Besame Mucho". The evening will also include rousing arrangements of Latin American styles such as "mambo" utilizing a variety of guitars plus an array of Latin percussion.
