Deep underground sounds will emanate from below as rising production duo SAVILE & OLIN tag their way through a DJ set on the heels of their "Horizon EP" on Wazi Wazi Music (released Feb 18).
Already receiving chart love and play from the likes of Deetron, Soul Clap and Jimpster, the EP follows their well-received remix for Jokers of the Scene, released last month on Fool's Gold Records. Look for the beauty in juxtapositions between Savile's eclectic range and Olin's custom edit-loving ear for deep, deep house and deftly-handled tech-funk.
Also appearing are Kiddo, Antiphase, Merrick Brown and Duke Shin.

SAVILE
The reason I create, and the reason I assume we all do, is out of, or in the pursuit of, love. What makes each of us unique is our relationship with this pursuit. For some, it’s fueled by sadness and conflict, while for others, by passion and enthusiasm. For me, for Savile, it’s that I have nothing else. No other thought nor pursuit has held my heart as house music has. The movement of the floor and the relentlessness of the bass bin are my kiss and my muse.
Consider me lucky. I grew up in a desolate factory town in Michigan, where success was working 40 hours with steel and a double-wide trailer with two kids. Fortunate to have a dial-up internet connection, I stumbled into forums and file sharing with boundless hunger and downloaded my way to an education in music. I since thought of nothing else as my future.
After working within the strict confines of hip-hop and pop music for several years, I found house music and its pursuit of freedom and escape to be an entirely refreshing perspective; one without the borders or preconception to which I had become accustomed. I began with rudimentary experiments in ‘house’ and ‘techno’ around 2007, and between filing applications for art school and temp jobs, I started to find my footing amongst the melody of Chicago and the percussion of Detroit.
I soon realized art school wasn't the proper step, and shortly after abandoning that avenue I signed my first single to Norman Cook’s Southern Fried Records. Just a month before the release, I packed everything I owned and moved to Chicago, the city of house music, where I began splitting my time between 40 hours in the kitchen and long nights on the dance floor.
One year later, I’m still working full time, still juggling the passion and the pursuit. Along the way, I’ve shared the booth with the likes of Damian Lazarus, Lee Burridge & Danny Howells, Radio Slave and the venerable Derrick Carter. I’ve played Chicago’s Smartbar, Spybar, Vision, and legendary underground spaces. I was featured with Amon Tobin & Eskmo on a Ninja Tune release this past spring, and have pending releases on Moodmusic imprint Wazi Wazi and Detroit’s Hej Records, among others. My productions have grown increasingly dense, with the Detroit-influenced percussion and organic synth work leading me through a myriad of thick and thoroughly reverbed avenues. I sometimes joke with my friends that my sound is as if "Radiohead were making house." Maybe.
I know there are still many moves to make. The “to-do’s” and the “done’s” grow and shrink in parallel. If you’re reading this, you’re no doubt curious as to who I am, or who Savile is, for that matter. This changes every day. What I know is that through the creation and the playing of music I’ve touched a high that I cannot replicate. The love is there. My hope is that you can get a taste of it, too.
Sincerely,
GianpaoloOLIN
Olin is the product of a love for subtlety and emotion in music. Olin injects melody and space into techno and house to produce a unique and enduring sound. Olin is co-head of Forem Records and a member of Trustus.KIDDO
Influenced by the sounds of Berlin, Detroit, and Chicago, Kiddo's style is a melding of numerous genres of techno and house music. Her sets may range anywhere from glitchy, shuffling micro-house to sexy, melodic tech-house to more dark and sinister techno. Lately she's been moving the dance floors with seamless techno mixes and the occasional jackin' house cut thrown in for good measure. She is known for her enthusiasm behind the turntables, connecting with the dance floor through the combination of a charismatic smile and energetic mixing.
In 2006, Kiddo held a monthly residency at one of Chicago's favorite underground night spots, Smart Bar, where she produced showcases to introduce internationally respected techno artists to the city's dance music devotees. She made her Miami debut at the 2007 WMC, where she performed alongside Adam Beyer and Joel Mull, among others. In addition to her regular appearances around Chicago, she has performed in Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, and Detroit. In 2008, Kiddo contributed vocals to Decimal's Technicolor Lover EP on Soma Quality Recordings. In 2009, she traveled to Spain to perform at the world famous club Mogambo in Valencia. In August of 2011, Kiddo and frequent musical partner Andrew Schook (aka Antiphase) opened for Daniel Bell at Smart Bar to celebrate their wedding.
As a vocalist trained in classical and jazz performance, Kiddo also currently sings with several Chicago choral groups when she's not behind the turntables or dancing her heart out at late-night gatherings in support of her city's vibrant techno scene. In her spare time, Kiddo also acts as a contributing writer for Newcity magazine and Resident Advisor.ANTIPHASE
Coming from a tiny town in Michigan where country and heavy metal reign supreme, Andrew seemed destined to own a pickup truck and grow a mullet by his mid 20's. Thankfully, his move to Chicago in 2000 allowed him to discover the city's vibrant dance music scene and he honed his musical tastes at a superhuman rate. He soon befriended other purveyors of fine music, the NBFC, and he proceeded to help organize the NBFC's biweekly techno event "Etikett" which featured local and international talent. After Etikett's near two-year run, Antiphase has since successfully melted faces country-wide with impeccable taste, variety and unnerving charm. Antiphase is very fond of the minimal side of house and techno, Detroit techno, alien electro and dry raw dog acid. But you're also just as likely to hear some bassbin rattling techno and jackin' house cuts. His number one goal: provide a good time.MERRICK BROWN
Merrick Brown has been called many things in his life but boring is not one of them. By day he is a self-taught graphic designer and by night, a bit of a music aficionado. Almost 15 years ago, Merrick stumbled into a rave and was instantly hooked on the loud frenetic beats. His first forays into DJ'ing began in 1994 with techno, jungle and all things rave. Soon after moving to Austin in 1996, he began recording and later releasing records on his own Tektite Recordings and Chalant Music. Both labels have featured an impressive roster of international artists and helped put Texas on the map with a string of timeless underground classics. Merrick was also behind a series of legendary Austin club events, featuring such acts as Jazzanova, John Tejada, Bugz in the Attic, Titonton Duvante, Charles Webster, Recloose, King Britt, and many more, exposing Texas to some fresh sounds. Merrick further refined his DJ skills playing alongside the likes of Derrick May, DJ Surgeon, Matthew Dear, Metro Area, The Hacker.. the list goes on.
Merrick played an integral role in the Texas electronic music scene, staying on the cutting edge while remaining rooted in all types of obscure, left-field and influential music of the past. He is known for DJ sets that are energetic and spontaneous, with a freeform style guided by constant crowd interaction. He shuns the purist mindset, choosing instead to weave through genres, playing from his wide-range of musical influences to create something entirely new. His excitement for music comes across when he plays along with a sense of humor that frequently wins over even the most challenging audiences.
Merrick continued making his mark on Austin with Get Broke!, the weekly club night at Plush, where he (along with residents Tyler and Wilb) created musical masterpieces out of chaos for almost 5 years. Summer 2007 saw the end of Get Broke! and the start of a new chapter for Merrick and wife Toyacoyah, as they moved to Chicago.
At age 30, with over 12 years in the industry, Merrick has no intention of slowing down. With an album in the works and plans to re-launch Tektite, he is poised to capture new audiences and satisfy dancefloors worldwide with a sound that is truly unique.DUKE SHIN
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but what is the value of a beat? A rhythm? A melody? Chicago-based DJ Duke Shin doesn't have any of those answers for you, but what he does have is a musical arsenal of the loud and strange, gentle and nuanced, mid tempo slow burns and torrid electronic freak outs-all wrapped up in deep house love, driven with a cybernetic techno heart. And his search to answer the question in finding the value of music has lead him to DJing many clubs, bars, lounges and loft parties including favorites like Smart Bar, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the monthly Freakeasy parties in Chicago. Somewhere along the way, Duke has had the good fortune in opening for electronic dance music luminaries like M.A.N.D.Y., Seth Troxler, Holy Ghost!, Pär Grindvik and Moby, and has enjoyed playing afterparties for bands like the Dandy Warhols, TV On The Radio, Jamie Lidell and Nouvelle Vague. When he's not busy DJing, Duke also works as a music journalist, and has had countless features, reviews and interviews published in Resident Advisor, BPM Magazine, New City Chicago (where he previously served as Clubs Editor for over 2 years) and CityPages MN. With an ever-evolving sound, Duke never slows down, continuing his search for musical enlightenment while delighting (and occasionally befuddling) ardent dance floor denizens and lovers of the eclectic mix. Aside from guest spots, Duke was last spotted at his monthly Crystallize parties.
