11/28/12 – German Culture & History Tour of Detroit
(9:30-5:30)
$62 will include the bus expense, seeing the famous Deutsch Haus—the grandest of the old Detroit Ethnic Halls, touring Historic Trinity Church with all of its elaborate woodwork(Rev. David Eberhard), seeing the beautiful St. Joseph’s Church & also Old St. John’s-St. Luke. (UCC)(At UCC we will see a casket that was used during the UGRR* days.) We will also visit Eastern Market and go by Sacred Heart Church (formerly a German Church). We will also learn about the many German Breweries that used to be there. We will have lunch at Jacoby’s next to the beautiful Wayne County Bldg. and then tour Historic Harmonie Park near the Music Hall. We will then take Woodward Avenue to the Cultural Center where we will visit the terrific Detroit Institute of Arts. We will tour the German Galleries and other meaningful sites at the DIA.
The tour begins in Indian Village at the home of Tour Guide Stewart McMillin.
