After a short spring break, Dented Melons is back...bringing some summer vibes and some amazing music to boot!
This time we've got an exclusive showcase for Berlin-based Brouqade records...headlined by label co-owners and good friends of Dented Melons, Anthea and Dana Ruh.
To make the evening that little bit more special, the ladies have agreed to do an exclusive-4HRS back to back set...just for Dented Melons.
They'll be backed up in full force, as alongside them, they have two of the scene's rising stars.
From eastern Europe, another from Romania's conveyor of amazing talent, Faster.
Also joining them we have London regular and Lower East records head honcho Lee Brinx.
We can't wait for this one :)
ANTHEA:
It seems these days you'll find Anthea (UK born and raised) more at home in the electronic capital Berlin.
Once the girl to buy your records from at Phonica Records in London, now you'll find her doing A&R for the Berlin based label Brouqade and releasing on labels currently such as; Desolat, All Inn, One Records , Air London, and her now home label; Brouqade.
With some great releases under her belt on; Freak n Chic, Tuning Spork, Cecille Numbers, Phonica and Mojuba Records, you know that Anthea is a woman that knows her craft – with an emphasis on creating, not imitating.
Those who have seen her at Fabric, Panorama, Ghoa Beach, Watergate, Harry Klein, Circoloco UK, Space Ibiza, and Underground Ibiza to name a few, know that she demonstrates sophistication and powerful energy behind the decks.
Inspired by artists such as Mr G, Baby Ford, Ricardo Villalobos, Derrick Carter & Rhythm & Sound she has created a sound somewhere lodged between house and techno; that is deep, warm and bassline fuelled. We're very happy and looking forward to welcoming our good friend Anthea to the DM decks :).
DANA RUH:
We're very excited about the return of Dana to DM having played for us earlier in the year. Dana is no stranger to the underground scene, having previously released productions on her own label Brouqade, which she started in 2007, as well as Ostgut Ton, Barraca Music and Buzzin' Fly amongst many others.
This year, alongside Andre Galuzzi, she has also launched a new label ARAS, the first release being their collaboration "Trambolla EP" which has recently received great reviews from Matthias Tanzmann, Tiefschwarz, Laurent Garnier, Agoria and Troy Pierce to name just a few. Dana also has her track "Night till Dawn" featuring on Crosstown Rebels' compilation, Get Lost 4. More recently, Dana's track 'Kickboxing', released on Buzzin' Fly has been causing a stir on dancefloors across the globe.
As a DJ and one of the first ladies of the Berlin music scene, Dana has headlined at some of the world's most renowned clubs and parties, including Berlin's very own Watergate and Panorama Bar. Now, after teaming up with Anthea, expect more big things from Dana.
FASTER:
Born on 13.01.1988, started in music production for hip-hop underground culture since the age of 16. In a short time he will discover another music area that will become a fan of until now - the electronic music . In just a few months of learning techniques with friends, he acquires the ability to sustain a good quality dj performance. Influenced by major artists like Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Steve Lawler, at the time he decides to fructify his talent, so demonstrating that he has potential, he gets invited to many house music parties in Romania
Down through the entire period of dj-ing in famous clubs such as Studio Martin, Silver, Session, Chill-Out, Gossip, Daimon Lounge, Divino, Nagual, Kings, Backstage, Expirat, all in Romania but also abroad in London, Berlin, Mannheim and Paris at major underground clubs , he is starting to build a slowly and secure career in electronic music, reaching the 6th year of "seniority" in the Romanian electronic house music. He was invited to various radio shows, both in Romania and abroad (OneFm, Radio21, JustmusicFm, Ibiza Sonic Radio, Profm, etc)
He also had the opportunity to attend the best parties signed “The Mission”, with the largest public, which brought many admirers and honors (among the highest on the scale of value, to him was the Sven Vath Tour 2009 and Studio Martin). He played with major artists mentioning names like Booka Shade, Sven Vath, Andre Galuzzi, Alex Picone, Thomas Melchior, Digitaline, Mirko Loko, Onur Ozer, Tobias Neumann, Raresh, Rhadoo, Livio & Roby, Claude von Stroke, Ozgur Can, Samir, Joseph Capriati, Cicada, Ricky Stone, Tadeo, Damian Schwarz , Heidi, Audiojack, Daniel Sanchez and many more.
LEE BRINX:
Lee Brinx is a true stalwart of underground electronic music. His role as an east London based DJ, producer, label owner and promoter has put him at the centre of an underground scene that is starting to yield its influence the world over. Spreading his diverse musical manifesto far and wide, Lee has become an established name on the scene, garnering critical acclaim and respect throughout the industry.
It all started for Lee at a young age; growing up to the classic Motown, soul and Rare Groove records that his parents would boom throughout the house. These early years instilled a love of music in Lee that has continued to grow ever since. An accomplished guitarist in his own right, it is with electronic production however that Lee has truly flourished, with his music now gathering support from the likes of Sasha, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Laurent Garnier, Steve Lawler, Droog, Clive Henry, Terry Francis, MANIK, Tim Green, X-Press 2 and many more.
Lee’s unfaltering love for underground electronic music has seen him explore many variations of the scene such is his lust for discovering new ideas, concepts and philosophies. His penchant for garage grooves is still a distinct feature of his music today, but is now combined with deep beats, melodic basslines and a warm and soulful exterior picked up elsewhere on the way. Lee’s palette is broad but refined to say the least; whatever style he happens to be indulging in today is sure to be done to his usual impeccable standards. As a DJ, Lee displays a cultured finesse as he subtly builds through varying moods, atmospheres and tempos with a genre-defying collection of records at hand. His eclectic approach to DJing is on show perhaps like nowhere else at famed London party Crèche, where Lee holds a renowned residency. One of London’s biggest parties, Lee regularly lines up alongside the likes of Kerri Chandler, Shonky, Damian Lazarus and Maya Jane Coles.
His productions are equally as varied as his DJ sets, proving his ability to mix up styles whilst keeping a fresh and unique sound. ‘Computer Love’ from Hot Waves Vol 2 is a wonderfully idiosyncratic track that merges subtle melodies with deep, rolling bass. Productions and remixes alongside label cohorts such as Cozzy D, Wildkats and Kanio display his deft ability in the studio in addition to his knack for implementing collaborative ideas and translating them into cohesive dance tracks.
Lee also co-runs one of the most respected underground labels in the UK. Lower East, established by Lee and friends Cozzy D and Ed Kane in 2010, is already now one of the most highly acclaimed imprints in London, regularly receiving plaudits from the highest ranks for their monthly releases. Alongside the three owners who all produce on the label, Lower East boats the best in home grown talent in addition to emerging talent from around the world as part of their roster. London based acts such as Alexis Raphael, Wildkats, Robert James and Max Chapman join international stars Puente & Rosche, Pezzner and Lee Foss, making Lower East a pivotal establishment within the scene.
A permanent feature on East London’s prominent underground club culture, Lee Brinx is now ready to take the rest of the world on. With a wise head on his shoulders and an in-depth knowledge of the mixer within, Lee is sure to make the leap. Let’s just hope they are ready for him.
