“Living Eros From The Inside Out”
Certified Sexological Bodywork Training Returns to Canada Summer 2012
June 4th-October 31st 2012
“I woke up to my true potential as an educator. Through the Sexological Bodywork training I’ve been empowered by a community of fellow teachers, a brilliant curriculum, and my own body’s healing journey,” says Salt Spring Island sex educator Caffyn Jesse. Last summer Caffyn completed her Certified Sexological Bodywork training through online study with a 10-day residential intensive on Galiano Island, BC, Canada. This year, the training will be offered with new Canadian teachers and an expanded program.
Sexological Bodyworkers are somatic sex educators who assist individuals, couples and groups to deepen their erotic experience and open to the full power of their sexuality. Their teaching involves a variety of instructive modalities, including erotic massage, breathwork, pelvic release bodywork, scar tissue remediation and Orgasmic Yoga coaching. Sexological Bodywork has been a licensed profession in the State of California since 2003. As body-based erotic educators, Sexological Bodyworkers offer a sensuous alternative to standard sex therapy. Working with a Sexological Bodyworker can help people heal shame while exploring desires and discovering the tools they need to create a pleasure-enriched life.
“Healing and celebrating our sexual selves is a vital part of our human journey,” comments Dr. Liam Snowdon, who will be co-leading the new Canadian Sexological Bodywork training with Victoria, BC based erotic educator Lorna Hannah. Snowdon loves the deep connection of sex and spirit and believes that we can each use our sexual energy to expand our creativity in all areas of our lives. He says, “The Canadian Sexological Bodyworker training is exactly what professionals working in the area of sex need, be they counselor, bodyworker and/or educators from a wide variety of backgrounds. This is a professional training, with mechanisms for highlighting best practices, opportunities for great innovations and skill building to continue deepening into our own erotic practice .” Snowdon has worked in the counseling field for over 20 years and holds both a Doctorate in Human Sexuality and a Master’s degree in Public Health in Human Sexuality.
Co-leader Lorna Hannah came to the work through her own mid-life sexual awakening. Hannah studied Sexological Bodywork in Australia, Canada and California, and served as director of the Canadian Sexological Bodywork Coaching Program 2011. She also leads monthly Yoga of Sex calls for students of the New School of Erotic Touch. She brings to the work over 18 years of experience as an educator and an ongoing commitment to personal and profession erotic learning. Hannah says, “No work is more important than supporting people in feeling at home in their own sexuality. As a Somatic Sex Educator, education begins with me. I educate first by living eros from the inside out, and then support people in doing the same in their own lives. We help people help themselves.”
Caffyn Jesse comments, “Certainly talk therapy can be enormously helpful for people working on sexual issues, but body-based coaching is what allows people to really integrate new knowledge about intimacy and erotic energy into their lives and relationships. When people experience new capacities for pleasure, they are empowered to transform their erotic lives.”
Dr. Joseph Kramer, visionary and erotic pioneer in the field of somatic sex education, co-founded the profession of Sexological Bodywork in the 1990’s. Dr. Kramer has mentored and supported Dr. Snowdon and Lorna Hannah in developing this new Canadian training and has confidently handed the baton to this dynamic teaching team. Kramer will participate as a teacher in the online portion of the course, as will Ellen Heed, internationally-known teacher of human anatomy, yoga, and sex. Heed brings a deep commitment to women’s empowerment and trauma remediation to the profession. In addition, a team of Certified Sexological Bodyworkers will work one-on-one coaching each student and supporting the training as teaching assistants.
While the course is designed for those who intend to be professional practitioners, it also has great value for any sex educator, bodyworker, therapist, educator, or medical practitioner concerned with pelvic health and wholistic sexual vitality and integration. All participants will find growth and expansion in their personal sexual enlightenment.
The B.C. training begins with online group study on June 4th. Participants meet for a 10-day “Embodiment Intensive” on Galiano Island July 23rd -August 2. Practicum sessions continue with online group study through November 30th. The early-bird registration cost (to March 1st) is $3000.00, plus the accommodation cost for the residential portion.
