PEACE PARTY AT THE CAMBRIDGE CARNIVAL

SOS-Boston is having a peace party
This will be our first time participating in the Cambridge Carnival

Our purpose for having a peace party is to display to our community that a good time can happen without violence being present.

In 2011 there were 62 murders and 247 rapes or attempts in the city of Boston. That number does not reflect the amount of violence occurring in our streets daily. The many fights, stabbings and robberies are getting out of control. So far this year we have had 22 murders, 124 rapes or attempts, 870 robberies or attempts and over 9000 incidents or attempts of other major crimes such as assault, burglary, larceny, and vehicle theft. This is one too many for our community and a change needs to start now.

SOS in collaboration with Takeover Sound and Buenas Entertainment will be building a float for the Cambridge Caribbean Carnival 2012.

On the float we will have a DJ, registered community members, open dance floor and tons of fun. We are having a mobile peace party to demonstrate to the community that we can enjoy ourselves without fear.

As a part of our float we will have a floating memorial for all the lost loved ones of 2012.

SOS wants this event to raise awareness so that the city can understand the importance of peace, and in order for this to happen we need to have the whole community involved. Our community gets a negative reputation because of a few people who make us all look bad. When people think of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan or any other town in Boston, their first thought is about the violence. SOS wants to show the community that there are many great gems here. We need to promote the positive potential that we have. Once some eyes are opened and they see how great we are, more opportunities will start flowing

DONATIONS ARE VERY MUCH WELCOME TO HELP COVER COSTS OF WATER AND OTHER MATERIALS NEEDED

AS MENTIONED ABOVE WE ARE DOING A FLOATING MEMORIAL FOR LOST ONES OF 2012...IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT UP A PHOTO OF YOUR FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER WHO HAS PASSED PLEASE LET US KNOW AND WE WILL HELP GET THIS DONE FOR YOU. FOR NOW WE ARE JUST GOING TO POST AS MANY NAMES THAT WE CAN FIND OF PPL WHO HAVE PASSED IN 2012. IF YOU ARE GOING TO POST A PIC PLEASE CONSULT WITH THE FAMILY FIRST SOME PEOPLE MIGHT NOT LIKE IT.
