THIRD INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
“DAYS OF ARMENIAN TRADITIONS AND CULTURE” – BURGAS

The “Days of Armenian traditions and culture” festival is organized by “United Armenians” association and in 2012 it will take place for a third time in Burgas.
In its first two editions participated more than 250 Armenians from Burgas, Varna, Ruse, Shumen, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sofia, Vidin as well as a vocal group and individual participants from Yerevan, Armenia. Since 2011, the festival is open to international participation with the ambition to unite the Armenians all over the world.
І. Categories
Those who are willing to participate in the ІІІ edition of the festival can do it in different art categories – music, dance, theatre, fiction, art, photography:
• Music (vocal, instrumental, classic, folklore, pop and jazz) played solo, with an ensemble, choral or orchestral.
• Dance – traditional Armenian dances, performed solo or with an ensemble
• Theatre – a part of theatrical play or a complete short theatrical play, recitation
• Fiction – a copyright poem, essay, short story
• Art – free themes
• Photography – free themes
ІІ. Accompanying events
During the festival, the following accompanying events will take place:
1. Art exhibition of approved Armenian artists from Bulgaria and abroad
2. Photographic exhibition
3. Literary evening with Armenian writers and poets
4. Performance of an Armenian theatrical company
5. Show of an Armenian movie
6. Concert of Bulgarian performers of Armenian music
7. Bazaar of:
• American book published in Bulgaria and abroad
• CDs with Armenian music
• Traditional Armenian cuisine
8. Charity concert of performing team (choral, instrumental and vocal formations, dance formations)
9. Awarding the most talented children from Armenian origin (for details look below)
10. Armenian soiree (with advance booking of the participants)
ІІІ. Conditions of participation
І. The programs presented by the participants must be mainly with Armenian character
ІІ. Duration and number of the participations in the categories:
- Choirs – not longer than 20 minutes
- Dance formations to 5 people – not longer than 10 minutes, larger than 5 people – not more than 20 minutes
- Vocal groups – not longer than 20 minutes
- Individual participations – not longer than 7 minutes and not more than 2 plays, one of which Armenian
- Theatrical companies – not longer than 20 minutes (one short theatrical play or a part of a play in Armenian or Bulgarian from Armenian author on Armenian theme). More than 1 play or a part of the play is allowed if it doesn’t take longer than the stated time
- Fiction (copyright – poems and fiction) no more than 3 works. The theme is free but the Armenian is preferable
- Art – no more than 3 works on free theme (for details look below)
- Photography – no more than 3 photos on free theme (for details look below)
- Concert of Festival International Orchestra together with the orchestra by “Levon Manukyan Collegium Musicum” (for details look below)
ІV. Organizational issues
• The participation in the festival is WITHOUT fees as all the expenses for transportation and accommodation are borne by the participants
• There are no age limitations for the participants (except for the Festival Orchestra)
• The organizers of the festival provide rehearsal halls, scenes, lightning and sound
• If the participants hire accompanist for the musical performances the pay additionally for the rehearsal and the concert according to announced tariff
• The organizers offer accommodation packages for 2, 3 or more days (full board or half board) The prices will be announced after 1st April, 2012
• Each group will have a person responsible for meeting and full cooperation from the organizers during the festival
• The participants in scene genres will receive schedule for rehearsals on their e-mails after 20th August, 2012
• All of the participant will receive diploma for participating
• Deadline for submitting the documents for participation – 1st August, 2012
• The festival will be recorded by ”Skat” National Television
• A disc with chosen moments from the festival will be released
• By their participation in the festival the authors and the participants remise their rights on their public presentations and replication to the organizers unless otherwise agreed
• All of the participants must confirm their participation on the given e-mail with:
- Name of the formation/participant/director
- Duration of each show they are performing
- The exact name of the work and additional requirements
- Phone number and e-mail for contact
V. Additonal information
• All performances will be recorded and the records will serve the advertising needs of the festival
• Details for the soiree will be announced after 15th July, 2012
• Funds collected will be used for covering the needs of the festival and its future edition
• The organizers accept donations from juridical persons or private individuals, which if they will, will be announced as sponsors of the Festival and will be stated in the posters and in the programs; if promotional materials given the same will be handed out during the happenings. Prizes are also accepted.
Note: The organizers retain their right to change the conditions.
VI. Novelities
I. Festival Youth Orchestra
“Levon Manukyan Collegium Musicum” orchestra and “United Armenians” associations realize common project for the formation of Festival Youth Orchestra from children and youngsters from Armenian origin all over the world.
Conditions of participation:
• All participants must be under 25 years old
• Each candidate must wield one orchestral instrument
• The participants must send until below stated deadline the following:
- completed application form
- detailed autobiography
- DVD recording or youtube clip
Te recording must represent the participant as a solo performer and if possible as an ensemble and/or orchestral performer. Orchestral experience is not compulsory but recommendatory.
- orchestral repertoire (if any)
- copy of the transferred tax for participation for 100 euros
• Transportation expenses to Burgas are borne by the participants. The organizers could cooperate for transport from Burgas to Sofia if there is an appointment in advance.
• The organizers will inform the approved candidates and will borne their expenses during the 8 days of the festival. The participants will be accommodated with families or at hostels. The program includes 6 days of rehearsals and concert as well as free time.
• All of the members of the orchestra will receive diploma for the participation in the Festival Youth Orchestra.
II. Participation with photography
The third edition of the festival opens doors for all professional and semi professional photographers all over the world who would like to participate with their own photographs. The best ones will take place in exhibition, which will be presented at the festival.
Participation canditions
• The photographs must be on Armenian theme (churches, monasteries, stone writings with historical values, monuments, places, photos of Armenian traditions and others)
• The size of the photographs must be minimum 15 x 21 cm.
• The photographs can be color or black and white
• Every photograph must have on its backside or on additional sheet the name of the author, the name of the photograph and information about the object on the photograph
• Each author can submit maximum 5 works send by e-mail or by the post to address: Fotinova str A 24, Manuk Manukyan.
• The organizers will select the best photographs and will include them in an exhibition. Their authors will be informed on their e-mail address. Each active participant will receive diploma for participation
• The organizers do not bear the costs for the transportation and the accommodation of the authors
• All of the photographs will remain in the archive of the festival
• The participants must send short autobiography written on computer, which will be applied to their photographs if they are participating actively. To the letter, the participants must apply also full address, phone number for contacts and e-mail.
Awards for talented children
“United Armenians” association together with Armenian Church board – Burgas is awarding talented Armenian children who are living in Bulgaria for their achievements during the period 2011 – 2012. All approved children will be invited in Burgas for accepting their awards.
Conditions of participation
1. Students will be awarded (to completed 12th grade), awarded or qualified on prestigious national and international competitions, festivals, forums and contests
2. All of the candidates must submit:
- Detailed autobiography
- List of their awards during the period 2011 – 2012
- Two recommendation letters (one can be from tutor, couch and etc)
- Copy of the diploma(s) and the documents which verify them
- Video material from their performance (not mandatory)
- Exact address, phone number, e-mail, web site (the web site is not mandatory)
Others:
1. The organizers will announce the exact date which will be during the III edition of the “Days of the Armenian traditions and culture” festival – Burgas, 2012
2. All approved participants will be invited on the day of the awarding ceremony on official cocktail where they will receive their diplomas and prizes
3. The number of the prizes is limited and will be defined after precise selection
