For our 2012 Season 4 presentation, the award winning KARMA Carnival Band beckons all to KARMA-long and join our search party as we embark upon an epic quest in search of civilizations, actual and fictitious, that share the common fate of having been “LOST” with the passage of time. Civilizations yet discovered, whose actual locations, and in some instances very existence, remain a mystery; and others which actually existed in more than just the imagination conjured up in the pages of fiction, whose inhabitants are long gone and whose architecture, or rather what’s left of it, lie abandoned.
Our expedition will take us to an exotic valley hidden within the Kunlan Mountains of the Himalayan Region of Nepal in search of a mythically mystical, happy and harmonious utopia known as SHANGRI LA.
In the Orient ... there lies a hidden dreamscape of Balance, Harmony, & Zen.
Mystical ... Enchanted ... An ethereal Himalayan utopia ... Untouched ... Unblemished.
We beckon you as the siren calls to the sailor from the sea.
Voyage with us.
To the land where we age no more, and nightmares are devoured by the light of hope and wisdom.
We beseech you to set adrift with us.
And to be one in the discovery of finding SHANGRI-LA
Then westward to southern Italy where at the Bay of Naples, a city frozen in time under 75 feet of ash and debris for over 1500 years in the wake of an eruption by Mount Vesuvius, at whose southwestern slope lies POMPEII, has since been resurrected from the ashes of human memory.
Can you not feel the earth pound beneath our limbs in warning?
As the Roman God Vulcan beats his fist in time to the rhythm of a lava soaked rage.
Spewing ash atop the earth like an old man taking to his pipe.
There is a thunderous and mighty force below, being made to lie in the keep of patience.
Rivers of magma flowing white hot - dance and chant below to be set free.
As the very crust that is earth’s fabric gives way to being torn asunder ... the mountain gives in, and all is suddenly still.
Frozen in time for all eternity.
The search is on for POMPEII.
We then search the headwaters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in northern Iraq, Africa and the Persian Gulf for a divine garden once inhabited by one man, one woman and one particularly cunning serpentine deceiver through which flowed a river out of EDEN that watered that garden.
Of rib & bone, perfection & flaw.
We sit in the garden.
Finding rhythm in the song.
Beautifully human we delight in the wisdom of the dance.
As the serpent spins its tale on the sound of drum and wood.
And we listen mesmerized, and as such are cast out.
And a hunger builds.
An unquenched thirst to find our place once more in the garden.
Come ... We shall find our salvation once more in the dance, as we sing our song to EDEN.
From there, our quest continues to South America where an estate was built for Inca rulers that was later abandoned at the time of the Spanish conquest. Often referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas” MACHU PICCHU now lies in ruins high above sea level, on a mountain ridge in the Cusco Region of Peru.
Mother Earth & Sky God meet, to breathe life into a nation.
Their children made of bronze - taste the air once kissed by Ancient Gods.
Can you not hear and feel the beat of the warrior’s heart - as it gives birth to the Inca? Temples rise atop the clouds to be consumed by the light of the Sun.
A civilization great and mighty is erected, and lost.
Scattered to the wind ... the Gods of fire and mountain await ... to be found and gathered once more.
