Brooklyn Art Song Society Teams Up with Pulitzer-Prize Winner Yehudi Wyner
Brooklyn Art Song Society, fresh off its critically-acclaimed performance of the complete Charles Ives Songbook at Galapagos Art Space, returns with the second installment of its new music series: In Context. This season’s featured composer is Yehudi Wyner, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for music composition in 2006 for his piano concerto, Chiavi in Mano. Mr. Wyner will be performing three of his own sets of songs with three gifted singers: Psalms and Early Songs with bass Paul An (who recently soloed with the New York Philharmonic in their performance of Phillip Glass’s film score to Koyaanisqatsi), Three Medieval Latin Lyrics with soprano Melissa Fogarty (American premiere) and the piano-version of The Second Madrigal (New York premiere) with long-time friend and collaborator Dominique Labelle. Also on the program is Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs Op. 27 and Dmitri Shostakovich’s 7 Poems by Alexander Blok Op. 127 for Soprano and Piano Trio. Be sure not to miss the works of one of the greatest living American composers paired with these two timeless masterpieces. This performance is produced in conjunction with Bargemusic.
