The BIG TEN INCH 78 RPM Listening Party returns to the Bell House. Record collectors from around the area will bring their ten-inch 78 RPM records to play for the faithful.

Hosted by Phast Phreddie the Boogaloo Omnibus, past participants have included Billy Miller (Norton Records, The A-Bones), Malcolm Tent (Trash American Style), Ted Barron (Boogie Woogie Flu Blog), Michael McMahon (Susquehanna Industrial Tool and Die Company), Rex Doane (Fool’s Paradise, WFMU), Debbie D from Georgia (WFMU’s Rock and Soul Ichiban), Juke Joint Jonny (Grade-A Fancy Magazine), Adam Lore (50 Miles of Elbow Room), John Funke (Backwoods, WMBR), Mr. Fine Wine (Downtown Soulville, WFMU), Dave the Spazz (Music to Spazz By, WFMU), Deb O’Nair (Fuzztones), Chas Kit (Garage Hangover), Alex De Laszlo, Ian Johnson (Academy Records) and Mike Mortician (The Memphis Morticians, Mods Love Rockers). Any combination of these folks can show up and spin some wack shellac.

Sounds have included rock’n'roll, R&B, tough blues, doo wop, big band swing, mambo, hillbilly, rockabilly, novelty and even Chinese music. Occasionally, spontaneous swing dancing breaks out among the attendees. Around 7:00 or so, we send out for pizza!

The Bell House is located at 149 7th Street (between Second and Third Avenues), Gowanus, Brooklyn. Take the F or G Train to Fourth Avenue, the R Train to 9th Street. Action starts at 5:00 PM and takes place in the Front(ier) Room. No cover charge.

If you got 78s and you would like to play them at the BIG TEN INCH, let the Wang know--or just show up with them and we'll let you swing!
