The International School for Bottom-up Organizing just had a successful international training session in Jamaica, with organizers from three countries: Jamaica, Colombia and England. We learned to make ethanol and solar panels as part of our aim of creating self-sustaining prototype communities based on a principle of egalitarianism.
WE ARE NOW FACING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION AND NEED YOUR HELP. Less than a week after our comrades returned from the ISBO school to their Afro-descendent town of Villa Rica, Colombia, a major attack was made on the police station there. It is not clear who made the attack, but we suspect it to be part of a racist political power play. Six people were killed in the attack on the police station and the hospital next door was damaged, so several dozen injured people had to be evacuated for medical treatment. Then the Army proceeded to invade and search every home in the town of 15,000, terrorizing all the residents in a racist, fascist move.
Some background: Villa Rica is a town of about 25,000 residents; 99% black African decendant; Records suggest that this district was finally released from the bondage of slavery in 1929; In the past 5 years over 5 million African decendants have been forced off their land to make room for bio fuel agriculture. In the past 14 months some 60 or more "labor organizers" have been killed many from this same area. ISBO has been training organizers in this area for the past four (4) years. We believe ISBO has a responsibility to stand in UNITY with our comrades and defend their and our right to live with out fear of bullets and bombs.
We need your help to IMMEDIATELY replenish our resources so that we can provide necessary support to our Colombian comrades. We also need help in bringing international attention to these events and to the fascist conditions poor people face in Colombia. There are 3 ways you can support -
1. Come to the Gig on Fri 24th Feb, £5 suggested donation and the Soul Connection 25th Feb @ the College (Art Space)
2. Go to our website (www.peoplesorganizing.org) and make a donation; no donation is too small!
3. Post this letter or your own summary on your Facebook page, send Tweets, send emails, and help us get the word out far and wide.
Thank you,
International Collective of ISBO
