Brian Carpenter is a songwriter and composer based in Boston. He is also the trumpeter, arranger, and founder of NYC's Ghost Train Orchestra and the founder of Boston-based band Beat Circus, for which he composed a "Weird American Gothic" trilogy of original music. In 2010, the Beat Circus album "Boy From Black Mountain" won the Independent Music Award for Best Alt/Country Album. He has been featured on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross and has collaborated with Larkin Grimm, Marc Ribot, Roswell Rudd, and Michael Gira. His latest band is Brian Carpenter & The Confessions, debuted in 2011, with drummer Gavin McCarthy (Karate), guitarist Andrew Stern (Beat Circus), bassist Jef Charland, singer Noell Dorsey (Beautiful Weekend, Guillermo Sexo), and Jen Kenneally.
