- JOHNNY FOREIGNER - http://johnnyforeignertheband.com/
We utterly LOVE Johnny Foreigner and are so excited to finally be putting them on after years of trying to sort something out (we were trying to put them on before we moved to Brighton). We just wanted to let you know that. And now for some PR blurb about what they've been getting up to lately:
Johnny Foreigner's third full album, You vs Everything was released in November 2011 via Alcopop! Records. The realisations of six months of recording in various studios and spaces around the West Midland, it became the band's fastest selling album and the subject to much acclaim from press and fans alike.
Speaking about their new album, guitarist and singer Alexei says: "We are bursting with excitement to be able to start talking about our wonderful record. It was made this spring and summer in our hometown by our old friend Dominique James, and will be released november 7th on Alcopop. it's going to be called Johnny Foreigner vs Everything.
"We started writing it two years ago, and staggered recording and mixing over 5 months. the title came first. This is the first full length record we've made without a grammy - nominated producer, without contracts and new york and professionals. the biggest challenge we've faced as a band, and the worst thing about leaving the world of corporate-funded labels, was knowing that sooner or later we'd come to this point; having to make a way better record for a way worse budget… and i'm beyond proud to say that i think thats exactly what us and dom have achieved. we've made the record that sounds like we do in our heads."
- WE ARE THE PHYSICS - http://www.wearethephysics.com/
Since we finally caught WATP at The Great Escape last May, we've been looking for a good excuse to get them back down here for a show. This one seemed a particularly good one, and other people agree as since being confirmed for this, they've been asked to play a bunch of other shows on the tour. Wicked, eh? We've fiendishly thieved the next couple of paragraphs that're written here because we're like that. And it sounded better than what we came up with.
WATP hail from Glasgow and are purveyors of the completely fictional "mutant science punk rock". Originally known as WE ARE THE PHYSICS CLUB AND THEREFORE EVERYTHING WE SAY IS FACT, the spindly-legged quartet source from such bands as Polysics, Ex Models, Devo, Servotron, The Skids and Buddy Holly.
Known for their eccentric leg manoeuvres, bad eyesight and energetic, frenetic stage shows, their nerd-rock b-movie chic has become the artrock secret of indie rejects to hardcore punks to pop princesses. Having once incited a moshpit during Club NME at London's Koko in an effort to watch bouffant haircuts collapse, the band have won themselves an oddly affectionate and loyal fan base. DO. NOT. MISS.
"They could be the most perfect new band ever" - NME
- LOVE AMONG THE MANNEQUINS - http://loveamongthemannequins.tumblr.com/
Featuring members of Meet Me In St Louis, Shield Your Eyes, O You Broken Eyes and Crooked Mountain Crooked Sea, Love Among the Mannequins are a Brighton-based 4-piece who've been compared to the likes of Q and Not U, Elle Milano and Volcano I'm Still Excited!
They released their debut album 'Radial Images' in October on Function Records and show no signs of slowing down.. Hear a few tracks on their blog! (linked above)
We put them on at the Albert in November and it was incredible, DO NOT MISS THEM.
- JOANNA GRUESOME - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Joanna-Gruesome/116457368434206?
Cor, completing a FANTASTIC lineup is the wonderful Joanna Gruesome. We love 'em lots and they've been getting some great press of late, get down early to see them because you'll regret it when they become MASSIVE.
"Joanna Gruesome are fast becoming my favourite new band of the minute for their kick-ass 90s lo-fi sound, and new track Lemonade Grrl could well seal the deal. Expanding on their previous work, and still taking influence from the likes of MBV, The Cherry Smash, Rocketship and Beat Happening, it's twee yet 'FUCKYEAH' at the same time from the Cardiff five-piece. The distorted guitar, the harmonised vocals, the lo-fi drum noise - it all sounds right." - Basement Fever
"Helpfully there is much of late 80s/early 90s indiepop about the band but to this base is added the energy of garage bands, a contemporary lo-fi grubbyness and the throwaway bubblegum hooks, that when done right (as they are here) that allow bands to wriggle into our less-than-cynical hearts. If proper indiepop is what you're after then Joanna Gruesome are the band to find it in." - Keep Pop Loud
