MA Programme to be based at Brindavan Education Centre, Bangalore.
Academic staff from the University of Northampton and Brindavan Education Trust have been working together over the past year to plan a new programme leading to the award of the MA in Education. The course, with an emphasis upon special educational needs is to be delivered, starting in April 2012 in India and will be delivered by tutors from both the UK and India.
The University of Northampton is the leading provider of special education degrees and other courses in the UK and in recent reports was identified as the number one university in the UK for providing added value to its students. In addition the university is holder of theTimes Higher Education Leadership and Management Award for Outstanding Research Support.
The MA course to be delivered in Bangalore is modular and comprises five modules to be taught in intensive six day blocks over an eighteen month period starting in April.
This course will be led by Professor Richard Rose from The University of Northampton who is an experienced teacher and researcher and who has published widely published in the area of special and inclusive education. He has worked closely with colleagues in India for the past twelve years delivering training and professional development for teachers and parents alongside colleagues from Indian schools and NGOs. In addition he has worked with teachers in several other Asian countries including China,Singapore, Malaysia, Armenia and Hong Kong.
The other tutors will include Jayashree Amarnath Rajanahally an experienced teacher working with the Brindavan Education Trust in Bangalore. Jayashree has taught on many training courses and has delivered professional sessions at the University of Mysore as well as working closely with Professor
Rose for the past twelve years.
Professor John Visser from The University of Northampton a leading expert in the field of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and Dr Johnson Jament who has taught in a number of schools in Kerala and England, and has also worked as a post-doctoral research assistant in the UK.
Each of the modules will bring together a theoretical understanding of special education with opportunities to develop practical expertise in addressing the needs of children and young people.In addition to the face to face taught sessions, further support will be provided through a system of regular tutorials both face to face in India and via the internet with tutors in England. The modules are assessed through the writing of assignments and the development of practical activities. All students will write a final dissertation. All students will have full access to university library and media facilities and regular contact with a personal tutor. Students enrol for each module in turn and are therefore able to spread the cost of the full MA over the duration of the course (see timetable below).

The total cost of obtaining the MA is £2,354 - Rupees 169486 which can be paid in 5 instalments of £470. 80p (Rupees 33897)
